New Upgraded People's Cube - Bigger, Faster, Redder!

User avatar
Image
The long wait (3 months, to be exact) is over! Having spent more than three months in a temporal wormhole, we have re-emerged with the new upgraded People's Cube website - just in time for the glorious tax collection season!

NEW FEATURES:

The new WYSIWYG editor is much better and more reliable than the old Rich Text/Poor Text Editor, which has been put against the wall to end its misery. Posting clipart, videos, uploading images, and formatting text has never been easier! You might call it "editor for the rich" if it weren't available for free to the most oppressed workers and peasants among us.

From now on, for security purposes, posting HTML will only be reserved for the Party Elite. But the new editor contains a variety of generic and custom BBcodes that do just about anything you would expect from the good old HTML. This even includes floating text and images, hiding / unhiding content of a post, marking off-topic rants, and much more.

Most people have wide screens these days, so we made our site wider as well, to fit more content into one frame. We have also rearranged some of the old content and grouped it into different sections. Explore the new drop-down menu with pictures, user control panel, search, and many other features. We have worked hard for three months to bring them to you - therefore, praise and groveling are mandatory.

COMING SOON:

People-friendly URLs made up of the post title will make it easier to recognize the post by merely looking at the link. The old "numbered" URLs will still work in this parallel naming system that will make the site friendlier for people and search engines alike.

The Gallery of Visual Agitation with a complete collection of our artwork. Organized by albums, the gallery is fully integrated with the Cube. Every registered Cube member will be able to upload pictures to his/her/its personal album, and use them for posting on the site. We expect our gallery to become the biggest and the funniest depository of political cartoons and Photoshopped collages on the Internet.

If you notice any problems with the site, denounce them immediately to [email protected] and [email protected]

Collectively yours,
Red Square
People's Director

UPDATE (4/20/2010):The Party's prophecy about People™-friendly URLs have come true!

As of last night, the Cube URLs are being made up of the post title instead of numbers. This will make it easier to recognize the post by merely looking at the link. The old "numbered" URLs will still work in this parallel naming system that will make the site friendlier for people and search engines alike.

More updates to come.

. Dear Red Square: Glory to the Cube for eliminating the "Rich/Poor" distinction. It must have been simple oversight on your part to fail to describe the new system as one that makes everyone Rich. President Obama would be distressed by your carelessness since your silence on the subject could be interpreted by Tea-Baggers as indicating that the new system makes everyone "poor." On the other hand, President Obama being no doubt eternally grateful for all you do to promote the Collective Good would surely motivate him to ignore such understandable error by one who has toiled so hard in the Collective Vineyard in modernizing the Cube just as he understands how the stress of his job interferes with his speaking correctly and accurately when TOTUS is malfunctioning. --Gorbels Cube

I propose a toast! Beets and vodka for everyone.

Comrade Whoopie, that is most thoughtful! Nothing more celebratory that a vat cup sip of the People's Vodka . . . but those beets . . . do they not resemble old goat gonads? Are you sure of their beet status?

Comrade Pulloskies, I find that it's possible to stay logged in if you use the back arrow. It's not a perfect solution, but I'm sure this quirk will get worked out in due time. In the meantime, hats off to Comrade Director Red Square for all his hard work!

Our dreams have become a reality! This is a memorable day for the masses indeed comrades.

May I suggest a day set aside for this day? We have the founding day, this day,April 12th, the glorious day we got ahead of the 5 year plan and brought the Cube into a glorious new era of prosperity, the coming day of taxes, and of course, the October Revolution (ironically held in November).

Oh yes Fraulein, those beets were freshly dug from the soil of the Russian motherland. And that's not capitalist swill Stoli. No, this is from my private stock dating back to the glorious days of the USSR. That's right, aged in the bottle 20 years.

Many comradic thanks, I'm sure dear Olga Katrina, but I am growing most wearing of finding a way around the 'flaw' in the new system. Backtracking lead no where. much grande sighs

Mother-dubbers, Comrade Whoopie! It is grand vodka! But, I think I will pass on the beets, which appear as goat gonads.

GLORIOUS FELLOW ELITES, PARTY MEMBERS, PROLES AND NEW PROBIES, I am so overfilled with over joyousness, that I have a tear! No, two! Finally, our Party Elite, our dearest of dearest comrades has found me approved to be part of the "Party Elite"!! Heil Oboma! Heil Red Square!!

I should mention - and I regret that I hadn't done it sooner - that I had a lot of help in this upgrade from comrades Red Rooster and Mi. So praises and groveling should also be directed towards these two distinguished and worthy comrades. The last time I checked, their rubber boots needed some shine added to them.

Ditto that Reiuxcat. Many thanks indeed to our illustrious Chairman, first among equals and preeminent Premier Red Square and all those nameless others like Red Rooster and Mi who made this day possible.

And welcome to our newest Commissar Fraulein P. She has some catching up to do so I recommend she read ancient collective scroll.

Indeed, thank-you Red and to all who make this happen, this new lay-out is as slick as His Oliness smoking a Lewinskin cigar to the soothing sounds of Billy Clinton(best president ever?) on the saxamaphone incorporating the timeless environmental poetry and narration of the GoreAl.
Honestly, could anything be any slicker? Not even a well lubed Bushfield could compete!
-On a side note, i'm still waiting for my personal engagement of the "raging, rampaging, ranting Comrade Pinkie!" to be directed towards this lowly troll..... but a dreamer I am. especially the rampaging....

LOWLY TROLL?! And of whom do you think you are addressing, sir unknown L'Heureux! I, Fraulein Franziska Dracula Pulloskies, beloved Countess of Transylvania Southside, retired Headmistress of Franzika's Home for Retired Union Indoctrinators, am no "troll". And dear Comradess Pinkie is held in the utmost highest respect and regard! It is with such regard and acknowledgment of superior rantings that I address her! No one is in compare to her carrying and wielding of the glorious shovel! Few are as vibrating accomplished at rants and reverenced ragings, as our beloved Comrade Pinkie!!

A SHOVEL to you dear sir!!Image

The results of your glorious efforts are awe-inspiring, Chairman Square, Comrade Rooster, and Mi. I have nothing to offer you as thanks, except my weekly rations of beets and Peoples' Vodka, so please keep my rations and share amongst yourselves. Bigger, faster, and redder, indeed! It also contains the most revolution allowed by law without a prescription!

Komrades, thank you for your toasts and other compliments. (Not to mention the access to the upgraded распределитель.)
You can help us get the site going even better by reporting interesting problems.
  • Whatever problems also existed before the conversion this Sunday. Some of those may have been solved by the upgrade, others were left deliberately to build character.
  • BB-codes (such as \[CENTER\]) shown literally instead of having their intended effect on text. We are aware of this issue and I'm working on fixing it.
Anything else should be reported at once -- anonymously or otherwise. Просим стучать!

EDIT: Everything should be working now, that worked before Sunday. Do let us know, if you find anything amiss. Motherland will remember you!

Comrade Red Square,

I'm afraid one day, I'll come to the Cube, get lost somewhere and never get out, again.

"Help! I got lost in the Cube, and can't find my way out!"

User avatar
I click on the box to hide my online presence and yet I fear my online presence is known to anyone who cares to notice these things, and I have this terrible feeling that absolutely everyone cares. It's one thing for people to suspect I spend all my time here and thus am thoroughly pathetic and have no life, but quite another for those suspicions to be confirmed. I just KNOW that everyone else comes here for the sole purpose of seeing if that loser Pinkie is hanging around here again so they can laugh at how pathetic I am and the fact that I'm so without a life and I'm worried till I wanna puke that you keep records on this and spend all your time snorting over them because they show nothing but Pinkie, Pinkie, Pinkie, like doesn't she ever even leave to go to the bathroom? And I'm afraid you show the records to all your friends so they can laugh at me too.

The thing is, there is no need for my online presence to be known every time I log in because when I want my presence known, surely everyone here will agree that I definitely make it known--and many of them wish I wouldn't even when I want to make it known, yet at the same time they laugh every time they see it made known in other ways controlled by the Cube and not me.

Please fix it. But don't dare tell me no one cares.

In this newly issued software version, one's "presence" is indicated in the upper-right corner of their posts. I don't see the sign "Online and watching you" in your posts, which suggests, the checkbox did its job.
What makes you think otherwise, Commissarka?

What makes me think otherwise is that I see the same "online and watching you" thingy in the corner of my posts. If I can see that, then why wouldn't anyone else? Also, at the bottom of the page, my name shows up as one of users currently online. You'll have to forgive me, I've been scarred for life by AOL. We had that years ago and anytime I went online--didn't even have to visit any particular site--I'd get pestered with "Hey, how ya doin'?" IMs from people with even less of a life than I have. If there was a way to hide my AOL presence or block IMs, I wasn't aware of it, but the scars remain and I mean to play my victim card and get whatever I can out of it.

True comrades and dissidents from AOL, comrade Pinkie! I got to the point, where I thought I had to sneak online and quickly looking for all peering eyes and then disable something or another. And of course, I knew, they knew I had "less of a life" than anyone else.

I still feel AOL prying eyes and haven't been with them in years. Is there an Intervention group?

May I make a tiny suggestion for the new and "improved" Cube? It would be quite equal should the Cube place a tiny CUBE avatar for the homepage address bar -- it's an easy thing to do really and it helps folks easily locate this site among our many, many saved favorites. Just a suggestion. TY

Would this be similar to just dropped in to see what condition my condition was in?
Having discovered what condition my condition is in now what?
Do I continue to remain in the preconditioned condition or do I now adopt a new one?
Is the there a conditional condition I can assume from my current non positional condition?
Is 'in' really 'in' or just 'enter' without clothes on?
To be lost in the 'Cube' (Kapital Letter) one must absorb it, become part of it, then conditionally accept it as the existentialist dream it is.
Accepted on condition of course.
What was the result of that equality? All are now bourgeois or Proletarian?
I am now 5 miles high. Starting another drop.

Comrade GoP is korrect Comrade Leninka. Even though it appears that he has consumed a bit too much of The Party™ Approved Margarita™.

There is no guarantee that The Cube™ (or The State™ for that mater) will be accepting of a proletarian or a member of the bourgeoisie. But because we are more equal than others, we and our "fellow travelers" in the Democratic Party™ are accepting.

Accepting of bribes and and kickbacks, that is! Ha Ha Ha Ha!!!! YES! It is good to be a member of the Socialist ruling elite and to get away with robbing an ENTIRE COUNTRY BLIND before these uneducated, illiterate proles catch on. Obama has truly shown the way!

Thank you Comrade Blokhayev,

I am so glad to be trapped in the Cube, at this point. After all, nothing works better to move the country forward than bribes and kickbacks, and kickbacks and bribes, and don't ever forget that little piece of property in Chicago sold to Dear Leader for 1/6th of its value by Tony Rezko.

That said, we may need to have a talk regarding your priorities -- the Party's official site is supposed to be on the top of your very dearest favorites (favorite dearests?), easy to find with or without the picture! ================================================================
Oh, very nice indeed. Yes, it now works for my rather older browser. All's well in the People's garden. Thank you. And yes, even though I now have my nifty cube avatar for my "favorites" I'll certainly place the Cube at the top of the top (naturally).

Comrades,

Perhaps because I will not file taxes until June 15th, I have been derelict in directing kudos to those who have worked for the Greater Good: kudos to all. To the Revolution!

User avatar
You party elite are all alike. Taxes for me but not for thee. Hmmff.

UPDATE:

The Party's prophecy about People™-friendly URLs have come true!

As of last night, the Cube URLs are being made up of the post title instead of numbers. This will make it easier to recognize the post by merely looking at the link. The old "numbered" URLs will still work in this parallel naming system that will make the site friendlier for people and search engines alike.

More updates to come.

I have something new to whine about.

This started just today. After I log in, the Cube opens up in a brand new separate window, with the result I have it open twice on my computer--one Cube with me logged in, the other showing me logged out. Profanity ensues when I click one of them closed only to realize too late it's the one that shows me logged in, so I must log in again.

Is this something new I will learn to fall in love with, as I'm assured I will with Obamacare?

We've never seen this here... Which browser are you using? Could you try with a different one -- to find out, if this a browser-specific issue? Thanks!

User avatar
I have Internet Explorer 8 but no other browser available. My resident tech support checked all my settings but found nothing amiss. What's baffling is it only started doing this today.

As much as I hate to continue to whine (ok, ok, I do enjoy it to some extent!) but for the last 2 days I seem NOT to be receiving email notifications after posting a comment. Ugh. And to continue to whine, my PC has been more 'sluggish' since some of these upgrades (a problem I had with a previous web site I used to blog at). I didn't have this problem before, so was curious.
many thanks and much appreciation for all the "glorious" work which has transpired.
I said this elsewhere, but I also miss the #of comments made within a blog, before going into the blog itself. It was easy to see if there had been New comments.

I used to have that problem here at the Cube when using Safari so now I always use Firefox when I log in. Never had the login problem with Firefox and it's a lot more Flash friendly too. I find Firefox is essential when up to my usual mischief. You ought to check it out.

Speaking of browsers, I recently found out that Google Chrome is much faster and leaner than Firefox, which has become too slow for me lately. The Cube works very fast in Chrome and so I have now made it my default browser. It imported all the bookmarks, passwords, and other stuff from Firefox in a jiffy and for now I'm one happy comrade.

As for the login issue and opening a second window, I'm having the same problem and we're going to address it in due course. That part is handled by Mi now, whose programming skills and erudition are way above mine.

Google Chrome? Does it include all of Comrade Google's communist friendly applications that block dangerous counterrevolutionary ideas and falsehoods?

Faster and Redder--I will look into it.

I too am using Chrome. Also though I'm finding that every post I make in the People's Blog is improperly formated. Paragraph and line breaks don't work, nor do HTML tags to try and make them work.

User avatar
I just fixed your blog post, Colonel. We're working on the disappearing line breaks. If it's any consolation, you can too avoid this problem if you switch to "poor text" for now. In the meantime, we suggest that you blame Bush for it.

As for html, it's now being rationed and replaced by bbcodes for the masses (to fight spam and increase security). In times like ours, only secret Party Elite apparatchiks can use html.

User avatar
Yes, I will continue blaming Bush, and the oppressive Rich Text Editor that is keep the Poor Text Editor down. Fortunately though, with Retroactive Continuity(TM), it is as if such errors never happened.

User avatar
I just defined all downloadable file extensions. People can now post midi, mp3, wmv, pdf, etc.

Long live People's Karaoke!

Full list of allowed file extensions is in the editor info, but here it is again:

People's multimedia and Party-approved extensions:
gif, jpeg, jpg, png, psd, ai,
mp3, mid, kar, wma, wmv, mpeg, ram, rm,
pdf, doc, docx, ppt, pps, txt, rtf, xml, csv
mov, mp4, swf, mpg
rar, zip, torrent

User avatar
We are still working on the disappearing line break thingie in the editor, but in the meantime, when you work in the Rich Text mode and need a line break, use

Shift+Enter

Works like a charm.

Stay tuned.

Thanks, I needed that.
