Merry May Day Comrades!

Written:

Published: Justice, 1894;

World Workers, whatever may bind ye,
This day let your work be undone:
Cast the clouds of the winter behind ye,
And come forth and be glad in the sun.

Now again while the green earth rejoices
In the bud and the blossom of May
Lift your hearts up again, and your voices,
And keep merry the World's Labour Day.

Let the winds lift your banners from far lands
With a message of strife and of hope:
Raise the Maypole aloft with its garlands
That gathers your cause in its scope.

It is writ on each ribbon that flies
That flutters from fair Freedom's heart:
If still far be the crown and the prize
In its winning may each take a part.

Your cause is the hope of the world,
In your strife is the life of the race,
The workers' flag Freedom unfurled
Is the veil of the bright future's face.

Be ye many or few drawn together,
Let your message be clear on this day;
Be ye birds of the spring, of one feather
In this--that ye sing on May-Day.

Of the new life that still lieth hidden,
Though its shadow is cast before;
The new birth of hope that unbidden
Surely comes, as the sea to the shore.

Stand fast, then, Oh Workers, your ground,
Together pull, strong and united:
Link your hands like a chain the world round,
If you will that your hopes be requited.

When the World's Workers, sisters and brothers,
Shall build, in the new coming years,
A lair house of life--not for others,
For the earth and its fulness is theirs.

I hope everyone's May Day was most pleasant, may all our days be so. The poem and music video were chosen very carefully and I hope they were entertaining as well as informative. They illustrate a very important point I think a lot of people are missing.

Passion
The words of Walter Crane are just as beautiful and meaningful today as in 1894. Agree with him or not, this was a man who believed what he wrote. I haven't a clue what the lovely young lady was singing about, but the passion she expressed was a thing of beauty to watch and hear. Such things are not borne of accidental good luck or manufactured by a TelePrompTer or the evening news. They come from the heart and soul.

Therein lies the inherent doom of American Socialism. These pseudo-socialists have no passion, they are as empty as their sound bytes and they seek to destroy something they really cannot comprehend. That being the Spirit of the American People.

Indeed, Walter Crane's lyrics fit the passionate melody of the Russian folk-style lament about a woman who has waited for her man all through the harsh winter but he never showed up. Just like the American progressives lamenting and waiting for the Progressive World of Next Tuesday(TM) that never shows up.

They thought it would come after the election, but it didn't. They waited through the harsh winter, and it still isn't here. Now it's already May Day, and all they can do is lament and talk of HOPE that CHANGE will come from some external factors because they are entitled to it!
...
Cast the clouds of the winter behind ye,
And come forth and be glad in the sun...

But if you really understand the meaning of the song you will see how much the Current Truth has changed in the last 150 years.

I don't see anything wrong with this line. Isn't this what has already been built in the USA?

A lair house of life--not for others,
For the earth and its fulness is theirs.

And isn't this what the progressives of all stripes are trying to take away form us? Aren't they telling us that
a) we must slave to "build a lair house of life" FOR OTHERS and
b) that the earth and its fulness is NOT OURS to enjoy?

That was beautiful. Thank you Grigori for updating me on these things. It sure saves hours of sifting through tons of empty rock in search for one gem like this.

To reciprocate, here's a clip by a famous Russian comedian.
