For a brief instant, I felt a surge of resentment when I read this news. How dare they? Don't they know that I am unique, an individual, not something to be mass processed in a laboratory?

Then I remembered that I am, in fact, not an individual. I am a part of the collective. Without the collective, I am nothing. This was burned into my synapses during Party indoctrination sessions (what some of you call grade school and college). I am nothing. I have no value. I am but a cog in the wheel of the Progressive engine that drives us progressively toward progress. The only time I matter is when I can be of use to the Party as a statistic.

Once I realized this truth, everything was okay.
