The Illuminating Legend of Barashiva and Ganesh

One day as Barashiva was on his way to visit his wife, he was surprised to find a little upstart named Ganesh standing in his way. “I will see my wife,” said Barashiva. “No, no,” said Ganesh, “she'll put all kinds of strange ideas in your head about controlling what people may and may not eat.” Enraged, Barashiva fixed his deadly third eye on young Ganesh and fried off his head while accusing him of racism. “That's how white deities will do you,” mumbled Barashiva as he walked past the headless little urchin.

Well, you can easily imagine how distressing it was to be headless, so Ganesh went off in search of a replacement. Happing upon an elephant, Ganesh took the head of the noble animal and placed it upon himself thus ever after being identified with that greatest of land mammals.

But poor Ganesh never quite got over the disturbing experience of the encounter with Barashiva's ‘O' shaped third eye. You see, every time the elephant-headed deity would stand up to represent the masses that put him in office, Barashiva would threaten to accuse him of racism and remind him of his power to fry off heads. Ganesh would quail and become so flustered he'd forget why people voted for him, and he'd offer to compromise so he wouldn't be called extreme or unreasonable by Barashiva's servants.

And that, boys, girls, and others of the Fruited Collective is how Barashiva was always able to frighten Republicans into compliance.
