The People's Cube account gets suspended on Twitter

Around 6:30pm Tuesday evening (Dec. 2, 2014), our account on Twitter @ThePeoplesCube that has over 5,000 followers became disabled. Our inquiry resulted in the following discovery.

JulieBosman.jpg

Remember Julie Bosman, the New York Times journalist, who on Nov. 24 published the location of Darren Wilson's home, welcoming visits by the rioters and the Black Panthers? Well, on Nov. 26 we responded by Tweeting her and her co-author's mobile and work phone numbers. Others have also published her home address. after which she reportedly received a few COD pizza deliveries.

Julie Bosman is now apparently contacting Twitter demanding to remove all instances of her personal information posted by others. This results in some of the "offending" accounts being selectively suspended because Twitter Rules forbid disclosing other people's personal info. The same rules, of course, do not apply to the New York Times, whose editors continue to defend the publication of Darren Wilson's address.

From a legal perspective, everything seems clean. From a moral, ethical, and intellectual perspective this stinks to high heaven.

It turns out that some comrades' addresses are more equal than others. And so are concerns for individual safety: outing the location of an innocent cop who faces death threats from a violent mob is commendable, but outing the phone numbers of a journalist comrade who did that, and who isn't under any real threat, is a violation of privacy rules and will get you suspended faster than you can say "progressive chauvinism."

Below is our exchange with Twitter so far. Let's see how fast they will lift the suspension, which is depriving our 5,000 followers of fresh Tweets.

In the meantime, if you have a Twitter account, please click to send Twitter this note: @support restore @thepeoplescube account and stop #TwitterCensorship

Twitter wrote:Hello,

If you would like to request your account to be restored, please respond to this email and confirm that you've read and understood the Twitter Rules (https://twitter.com/rules).

We will then remove the reported Tweet and unsuspend the account. Please note that future Twitter Rules violations may result in permanent account suspension. We appreciate your cooperation going forward.

Thanks,
Twitter

We replied in a civil manner, trying not to aggravate anyone with the power to prolong our suspension indefinitely:

The People's Cube wrote:Apparently we didn't realize that we were in violation of Twitter Rules. Now that we have read and understood the Twitter Rules, we promise not to Tweet personal info of NYT journalists or anyone else ever again. Please restore our Twitter account and remove the unfortunate Tweet.

This is a screenshot of our Tweet that is the culprit here. Ironically, we can't delete it ourselves as our account has been disabled by Twitter because they didn't want anyone to see this Tweet, so it's still out there on Twitter for everyone to see.

Here is a relevant update by Charles Johnson at GotNews.com - he's been on Bosman's case from the start:

COPS: NYT Reporter Who Published #DarrenWilson Address Calling Cops Nonstop

The New York Times journalist who published Darren Wilson's home address wants police protection and has been calling the police nonstop, Gotnews.com has learned.

Julie Bosman “keeps calling the 020th District station complaining about people harassing and threatening her,” our source told us. She's also “complaining about numerous food deliveries being sent to her residence.”

Chicago police department sources alerted Gotnews.com about the glaring double standard on Friday.

Gotnews.com published Julie Bosman's address in Chicago after she published the address of Officer Darren Wilson and his new wife in a widely criticized move.

Da! : Your estimable and above-the-law self fires a weapon (which only you should be allowed to wield) at somebody who deserves punishment by unimpeachable standards (viz., yours). Your action was justified because the corrupt police don't see things your way. Any unfortunate consequences are, well, unfortunate, but you have done nothing illegal. Your bad target has to go on the run for their life and sleep with a loaded weapon under the pillow. Anyone who disagrees with your action is morally bankrupt.

It sucks to be them, but it's all their fault.

Nyet! : Somebody you don't know who has no moral code fires the same weapon (which only you should be allowed to wield) at completely innocent you. The consequences are "unfortunate" for you. The corrupt police don't see things your way and won't do anything about it. You get signed up for every pron catalog, spam list, and pizza delivery on the planet. You can't sleep with a weapon under the pillow because Guns are Bad. Anyone who doesn't agree that your rights have been trampled on is morally bankrupt.

It sucks to be you, and it's like totally not your fault.

Your bourgeois access to Twitter and Facebook exceeds the capacity of my obamaphone, and is therefore unequally distributed. Perhaps your access being denied that it may be granted to the workers of the beet fields?

Otherwise its just plain old censorship as practiced by the Administration and NSA...

I don't understand this. There is no such thing as property and privacy in the collective. All is government owned and operated. Why would a government aparrotchick be concerned about copycat exposure of details that aren't private, anyway?

The police are busy enough protecting themselves from angry revolutionaries, anyway, without being burdened with the additional responsibility of baby sitting a paranoid cry baby. A 9 - 5 revolutionary is an obstacle to success. And what makes her think that the thug police won't just shoot her in "self-defense"?

If you're going to instigate a revolution, there is a risk that some of the blood on your hands may be your own. It's a sacrifice for the cause!

FORWARD!

Truly the influence of FLATUS Moo carries more authority than I comprehend.

I'm happy for your restoration of services, but like our Beloved MTE stated in June of 2009, "I wouldn't know a Twitter from a Tweeter, but apparently its important!"

Amen

She'll know soon enough what a Twitter is, dear Ivan, and she will pay the price that she won't even recognize! She always plays the "dumb broad", while undermining other broads who "effed" her husband, trying to project herself as the most intelligent woman on the planet with the aid of the press! Let her live with it! Dumb broads always lose. Why? Because they're dumb broads.

So, in other words, anything can be published on Twitter -- and remain published forever -- as long as the publisher does not care to appeal the resulting account-suspension? I guess, that's useful to know...

Congratulations on your rehabilitation comrade director.

I must say, I haven't heard such pathetic whining and sniveling since we dragged the thought criminal Lavrenti Beria (to whom you bear a striking resemblance) to General Moskalenko's headquarters for his show trial and subsequent execution.

But take heart, self criticism and confession are good for the soul, thankfully Twitter is more forgiving than our supreme overlords at Google.

Yesterday. this story appeared in the American Thinker:

December 4, 2014
The People's Cube freed from Twitter Gulag
By Thomas Lifson

The People's Cube is one of the funniest satirical websites, run by Oleg Atbashian, who honed his appreciation for the immorality of leftism by growing up in Soviet-era Ukraine and finding employment as an agitprop artist there, before defecting to the West. In the interest of full disclosure, Oleg is a friend of mine.

Yesterday, however, Oleg ran into trouble with Twitter, the San Francisco-based outfit that failed to appreciate the irony that underlay a tweet he posted, giving the home address and telephone numbers of Julie Bosman, the New York Times writer who published the home address of Ferguson police officer Darren Wilson. Twitter suspended the account of the People's Cube.

Isn't the first rule of Twitter Gulag is "You do not talk about Twitter Gulag?"

Or is that Fight Club?

I got suspended for this:

Heck, it was funny when Bush was President...

User avatar
Well Comrade, we all know "they" are always right and its for your good. You are freed from the gulag unharmed and re-educated.
