As Obama's poll numbers continue to fall and republicans around the country gather strength heading towards 2012 a question comes to mind.

What will republicans do with the opportunity granted them?

The 1994 revolution held such promise but the leadership and subsequent administrations did very little with their sweeping victory. While the Bush administration and its congress were able to wage a war and install competent Supreme Court justices (while under duress from their own party) they were utter failures in many respects and I hold them responsible for the fact that someone like Obama was electable. The inability to curb spending and reform Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac are primary examples of their incompetence. They chose not to fight when the opportunity presented itself and might have had the worst PR team in the history of the presidency.

I will say this about democrats; they are unapologetic and aggressive with their agenda. What Obama has accomplished to this point is mind blowing even though it looks like he will fail on health care. The nationalization of the auto industry, the proposed cap and trade legislation, the cash for clunkers program which is nothing more than a government subsidized economic pain killer that will merely treat a symptom for the short term at high cost to the taxpayers.

WHAT WILL CONSERVATIVES DO? We cannot be back benchers forever. We have to solve problems and be aggressive in doing so. We must have tort reform, we must have school vouchers (in my opinion the trump ace card in our pocket), we must not rescue uncompetitive companies, we must cut spending significantly, and we must reign in the shell game on Wall Street. Free markets are great when they are honest and held accountable. I highly recommend the book House of Cards which documents the collapse of Bear Stearns. The level of incompetence is laughable. That people like these would be responsible for the foundations of our economic system is terrifying. That said the stilted regulation of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac set us all up.

I also recognize that while the dems hang themselves with their own rope conservatives have to be prepared to do something substantive. The status quo is an abject failure which the Bush years proved.

After reading the response to my comments I felt a twinge of self hatred and reported myself
immediately to [email protected]. Obama be praised my transmission made it though prior to the shut down.
I documented my reeducation for the benefit of the cube and highly recommend that anyone who has similar self loathing take part in the program. I met many luminaries on my path to further enlightenment as you shall see.
