Perhaps one of the most important arguments against Socialism is this:

Once people come to believe that everything is collectively owned by all of society and the purpose of government is to fairly distribute to everyone the wealth of the world, politics becomes a civil war and society becomes a battle ground.

There are two ways that battle can end.

The preservation of civilization - or the descent back to the rule of despots, poverty, and death.
