What an amazing book! The funny thing is that the alleged "heroes" in the book sound suspiciously like some depraved conservatives today, and some of the arguments I read were the same I heard in a particular sermon preached by a very funny and talented author/musician, Frank Peretti once when I was undercover to uncover some "believers." The "bad guys" on the other hand, the progressives, were quoting the democratic platform. What amazed me was how contemporary Ayn Rand was. If 1984 is the ultimate future, then Atlas Shrugged is the history of how we get there, I was even a bit surprised to here her talking about the shale oil in Colorado since when that book was written, oil was not really a scarce commodity and I didn't even know they were aware of shale oil. I have seen shale rock, smelled the oil (rancid), and worked next to an experimental unit making shale oil. It is sad we talk of energy shortages, taking food from tables to make gasoline, when we have more oil in Colorado than Saudi Arabia.
