Happy Columbus Day

Happy Columbus Day.

It's Columbus Day, not "Indigenous People's Day," and there's a good reason for it: Columbus discovered two relatively pristine continents inhabited by people who warred upon, enslaved, cannibalized and ritually sacrificed one another for thousands of years (much like Europe except the cannibal part). The Americas were wide open for some that good old mass migration that liberals are so fond of.

Columbus's simple "discovery" of America led to monumental changes for all parties involved, and that's what makes Columbus Day worthy of commemoration.

It isn't the fault of Columbus that the people who migrated from Asia and occupied the Americas had no immunity to European diseases. It's not Columbus's fault that those Asian migrants failed to hold and keep their land (land always belongs only to those who can hold and keep it). It's not Columbus's fault that the norm among Old World monarchs of his time was to lay claim to places. It's not even Columbus's fault that Spain forcibly took most of South America and much of North America before "Anglos"—the object of most of today's finger-pointing—even put their shoes on.

What happened in the Americas after 1492 was completely conventional at the time, and if Columbus hadn't arrived in the Americas then, someone else would surely have done so soon after with the same or similar results.

The irony about Columbus Day now is how it's being reviled by a few loud, persistent voices coming from a few loud and ignorant people who apply to Columbus their own contemporary liberal standards over a time that had no such standards. But there are other ironies.

As a holiday, Columbus Day was conceived to curb violence against  Italian immigrants, an ethnic group disliked by established Americans, especially liberals in New York, where Italian-Americans had to fight tooth and nail to get Columbus Day instituted and monuments erected.

Decades later,  something really ironic was set in motion: the Italian Anti-Defamation League. It seemed that some Italian-Americans decided to push back against the film, "The Godfather," by declaring they were offended by its portrayal of Italian-Americans and were angry with the bad look they imagined they were getting from it. (This, by the way, was at at time when ethnic humor was all the rage).

Guess what happened next?  Other anti-defamation groups sprang up like mushrooms after a soaking rain, and from this little push came a torrent of even more anti-defamation groups, no longer even hyphenated. This was the turning point in American history where identity and grievance politics really started to lay down the eggshells.

So, thanks to Columbus, we got Italian-American pride; and thanks to Italian-American pride, we got anti-defamation groups; and thanks to anti-defamation groups, we got identity and grievance politics; and thanks to identity and grievance politics, we got political correctness and cancel culture; and thanks to political correctness and cancel culture, we got statues of Columbus being torn down and the imposition of an "Indigeous People's Day" to celebrate the Asian peoples who migrated to the Americas and warred upon, enslaved, cannibalized and ritually sacrificed one another for thousands of years.

Happy Columbus Day.

State enforced Christian Nihilism just doesn't make a whole lot of sense....but, then, 'pelipsky is only working with a hare brain. Nothing like having a President rip his nation's beating heart out of our chests and show it to us before we're dead, to please his death god, in the name of progress.

Human migration has been going on for as long as there have been humans.

Besides, isn't "Indigenous Peoples' Day" anti-immigrant and xenophobic?

And why is it okay to help migrants cross the sovereign border of the United States, but not state lines?

That's a fact. No population anywhere (except perhaps parts of Africa) can claim to be "indigenous" to a particular piece of land.

Besides, isn't "Indigenous Peoples' Day" anti-immigrant and xenophobic?
It promulgates a number of false narratives, foremost that "indigenous people" suffered a genocide caused by Christopher Columbus. [see the attachment below]

And why is it okay to help migrants cross the sovereign border of the United States, but not state lines?
It's not okay: helping migrants to illegally enter the U.S. defies current immigration law, a apparently the current administration has no problem moving them across State lines, just not into wealthy blue neighborhoods or "sanctuary" States or cities.

Comrades, time to practice doublethink.
If you see any contradiction in the two sentences below, please check in at the Ministry of Love tomorrow at 0630.

1. Christopher Columbus was an evil bigot whose followers conquered entire nations, forced them to convert to a more peaceful religion and abandon terrorizing their enemies.
2. Muhammad was a hero prophet whose followers conquered entire nations, forced them to convert to a less peaceful religion and embrace terrorizing their enemies..
