Breaking: Putin tells the truth!

Steve Rosenberg brings us the latest from Russian newspapers. His insights are always interesting.

Firstly, Russian newspapers affirm their alliance with the regime in Iran which took over in 1979. Iran has been involved in supporting nearly every terrorist organization worldwide since then. You can tell about somebody by their friends.

Secondly, Russian newspapers are highlighting a quote from Putin, "Where the foot of a Russian soldier steps, that's ours." The original quote is, «Там, где ступает нога русского солдата, то наше.» It's a rare moment of honesty from Putin, and this puts to rest the excuses previously put out by Russia and repeated by too many uninformed commentators:

ýIt's about NATO expansion.
ýIt's about biolabs.
ýIt's about genetically altered flu viruses to infect Russians (!?).
ýIt's about freeing Ukraine of Nazis (who voted for a Jewish president).
ýIt's about liberating the Russians in Ukraine.
þIt's simply imperialism and repeats a long established pattern of Russian diplomacy.

Enjoy Steve Rosenberg. He will make you smarter.

Putin: “Where the foot of a Russian soldier steps, that’s ours.”
Islamists: “Where the foot of a Muslim steps, that’s ours.”
Different boots. Same mindset.
Nice to see imperialism finally dropping the pretense of going barefoot.

In other words, diplomacy is just a muddy bootprint on a welcome mat.
