During an online Facebook town-hall forum hosted by Parents Magazine, VP Biden fielded a question from “Kate” to the effect that if assault weapons and high-capacity magazines are banned, will “law abiding citizens ... then become more of a target to criminals?”

Without missing a beat, he wisely responded to her with this advice:

“Kate, if you want to protect yourself, get a double-barreled shotgun,” he said.

Then Biden added that he and his wife, Jill, live in a wooded area, and he's told her that if there's ever a problem to walk outside, put their double-barreled shotgun on the balcony, and fire off two blasts.

“I promise you: Whoever's coming in is not going to – you don't need an AR-15 [assault rifle]. It's harder to aim, it's harder to use, and in fact you don't need 30 rounds to protect yourself. Buy a shotgun. Buy a shotgun.”

"As a matter of fact, save yourself several hundred dollars. Instead of getting a shotgun, get one of these pop-guns I'm holding is just as effective. For my birthday last year, Beau came up behind me and sounded this thing off....scared the 'Bejeezus' out of me."

White House Spokesperson Jay Carney apologized for the Vice President misstating the administration's position on gun ownership and issued this revised transcript of what Joe Biden meant to say:

Just remember that since the term assault weapon is a meaningless term that can be arbitrarily assigned to any weapon…. [And since there is no difference between them and the guns protected by the Constitution] ….. a shotgun could easily be banned as well.

Because if you can ban one type of gun, what's to stop them from banning all types of guns?

Ummm, "problem" is such a broad term.... would this method apply if the "problem" was a fire in their new Chevy Volt or if they were having trouble getting MSNBC to come in on DISH Network?
