Everything I have to say has already been said, especially Kammerat's analysis. It's almost hard to believe the change from Laura Bush to Michelle Obama; One wanted to help kids learn to read, the other wants to have them learn to exercise without little food (Remind you of anything? Nothing regarding Gulags and Concentration Camps come to my mind, that's for sure). One looked like a great, honest person, the other is visibly slimy and suspicious. One's a sweet old lady, the other's a sour middle-aged lady. One was born in Texas, the other in Chicago. Laura's heartwarming, but Shelly's cold as ice.
This makes me think of a photo I saw. I can't remember who took it, I can't remember where I found it, I don't know when it was taken, and I don't know where it is. All I know is that the guy looking on is homeless.
If you look closely, there's nobody watching this guy. He even has a sign. It sort of puts all of these graduations in perspective. The lettering on the building says "Kupperberg Center for the Arts", and while some trumped-up people are carrying on with a trumped-up celebration, the guy who could've used the student's 100,000+ dollar tuition much better is being ignored.
College speeches are a bunch of bull anyway, It's just a bunch of blowing
(pot) smoke up the grad's asses to make them feel special for one last time before they leave the ultra-liberal collegiate world and go on to the real world. If you omitted all stories and statistics from these speeches, they'd essentially be a written form of drug user's ramblings about how they love you, everyone, and everything without any good reason. If the speaker has an agenda, it's also a good way to indoctrinate the already heavily-indoctrinated grads. They're already in that learning "mode", and they've usually idolized the speaker anyways,
so why not slip some stuff under the wire using charisma & clout so that they won't notice?
Most grads in big cities are drug users, so they believe that if something makes them feel good, it must be right. If the speech, which is designed to make the feel good, makes the feel good, then they'll believe that the agenda presented is right. The transcript shows that Shelly made them feel good, made a few jokes, so they'll take the bait, get hooked on left-wing ideology, but the problem is that the Democrats, following in the tradition of socialism and communism, don't practice catch and release.
In short, it seems that FLOTUS, along with many other speakers, are inspiring a new set of graduates to take another step through Checkpoint Shelly so that we'll never be able to go back to the other side of the Oberlin wall.
