Jeremiah Allison, the self-proclaimed prophet and leader of the Disciples of Barack, has come out in the open for the fist time since he conceived this religion during the 2008 presidential race. His following, which has been slowly growing over the past seven years, has seen a sharp increase in membership in recent weeks, with Obama's last term entering its final year.
The crippling fear of a world where Barack Obama is not the president is widely shared in the radical Left circles, often combined with the perception of the Republican presidential frontrunner Donald Trump as King of Hell and Prince of Darkness. Preying on those very fears, Allison has taken to Twitter and Facebook to spread his end-of-days warning and recruit new members.
The secretive group is reportedly screening applicants so that only "true followers" will be allowed to join them when they "depart" on January 20th, 2017. Due to the specific dates given and the nature of the organization, authorities and other public officials are deeply concerned that the group may be planning a mass suicide on the evening of Barack Obama's final day as the President of the United States.
Religious leaders in the area have been attempting to counter the cult with a campaign of their own, trying to sway the easily influenced away from Allison's organization. Local Democratic Party organizations, however, have opposed the counter-campaign because they feel it may tarnish President Obama's image - a fear that church leaders have dismissed as "irrational," "unsupported by facts," and "a knee-jerk reaction of a frightful and helpless mind."
The counter-campaign has also encountered heavy criticism and resistance from members of the left-wing community, who were quick to label Chicago church leaders as bigots, racists, and culturally ignorant. This has inadvertently strengthened the Disciples of Barack's message, attracting more converts and increasing the number of the cult's following to an estimated 638 members at the time of this post.
Allison continues to maintain a strict no-contact policy for himself and other cult members regarding speaking to the press or law enforcement officers, which makes it next to impossible to obtain an interview with the cult leader, let alone infiltrate their organization.
