In a move to deal with the Bernie Sanders debacle of 2016, the Democratic National Committee have proposed that only Democrats can run as Democrats!
DNC member Randi Weingarten, who is president of the American Federation of Teachers, posted a photo of the rules change shortly after it was added to the proposed draft call for the 2020 Democratic convention. Weingarten, who attended Friday's DNC meeting in Providence, R.I., wrote that the party “changed the rules to ensure to run for President as a Democrat you need to be A Democrat.”
The new rule would force candidates in Democratic presidential primaries to state that they are Democrats, accept the party's nomination if they win the 2020 primary and to “run and serve” as a member.
“At the time a presidential candidate announces their candidacy publicly, they must publicly affirm that they are a Democrat,” the rule says. “Each candidate pursuing the Democratic nomination shall affirm, in writing, to the National Chairperson of the Democratic National Committee that they: A. are a member of the Democratic Party; B. will accept the Democratic nomination; and C. will run and serve as a member of the Democratic Party.”
The rule seems like a clear response to Sanders, who caucuses with Democrats in the Senate but has steadfastly maintained his status as an independent. Sanders ran to the left of Clinton and identifies himself as a “democratic socialist.”

I didn't expect such an exclusionary, partyist approach from the Democrat Party.
What's next, a potted plant or my beloved toaster who is my legal marriage partner, can't vote or run for office?
I'm sure that pandas, manatees, and other cute animals are still eligible, or anything that has eyes for that matter.
This is where I draw a line. We can't reject equal rights to anything that has eyes or a face.

Hmmph. This sounds like transphobia to me. If a person an entity identifies as a Democrat candidate, then a person an entity is a Democrat candidate. And is entitled to a pronoun indicating as much.

'Dim' for the male-identified Democrat, 'der' for the female-identified Democrat, and/or 'dem' for the non-binary Democrat.

The Democratic party is a public accommodation just as much as a bake shop is a public accommodation so I think they need to be sued. Or do they have a religious reason to deny full public accommodation? Do they have a valid reason to get a waiver from the ideals of socialism?
Do they want to invoke a pre-1930's idea like property rights?

If indeed the rules have been changed to allow only democ RATS to participate in elections running up the leg of unsuspecting passerby, what about, say, democ squirrels? Or democ chipmunks and other assorted rodent type creatures who aspire to such heights? This seems non inclusionarily narrow minded and onerous. Does this rule affect rats of all colors? Or only old white ones with red eyes and wild hair? What about anti socialistic type rats of a mixed color? Does this apply to them. I think they need to apply some clearasil to remove any kind of non intended blemish from the record.
