Election Day used to last one day only. But some powerful people felt it wasn't enough, and they turned it into an entire season of jolly protests, festive lawsuits, decorative recounts, finding gift-wrapped ballot boxes under the tree, and making lists and checking them twice, so that all good self-identified boys and girls could finally be rewarded with congressional seats and governorships.
If there can be 12 Days of Christmas, why can't there be 12 Days of Elections? A recent post by Margaret made me write this song. It's not finished, so your contributions will be most welcome. Here's a YouTube original for inspiration.
12 Days of Elections
On the first day of elections Florida gave to me
a loss on the ballot counting spree.
On the second day of elections Florida gave to me
two reversed concessions and
a loss on the ballot counting spree
On the third day of elections Florida gave to me
three new bags of ballots,
two reversed concessions and
a loss on the ballot counting spree.
On the fourth day of elections Florida gave to me
four court orders,
three new bags of ballots,
two reversed concessions and
a loss on the ballot counting spree.
On the fifth day of elections Florida gave to me
five hand recounts
four court orders,
three new bags of ballots,
two reversed concessions and
a loss on the ballot counting spree.
On the sixth day of elections Florida gave to me
six machines a-failin'
five hand recounts
four court orders,
three new bags of ballots,
two reversed concessions and
a loss on the ballot counting spree.
On the seventh day of elections Florida gave to me
seven lawyers suing
six machines a-failin'
five hand recounts
four court orders,
three new bags of ballots,
two reversed concessions and
a loss on the ballot counting spree
On the eighth day of elections Florida gave to me
eight anchors fuming
seven lawyers suing
six machines a-failin'
five hand recounts
four court orders,
three new bags of ballots,
two reversed concessions and
a loss on the ballot counting spree
On the ninth day of elections Florida gave to me
nine mobs protesting
eight anchors fuming
seven lawyers suing
six machines a-failin'
five hand recounts
four court orders,
three new bags of ballots,
two reversed concessions and
a loss on the ballot counting spree
