Dearest Comrades, my family,
When I first heard of Kanye's transformation, I thought he was trying to capitalize on the Christian right. After listening to Closed on Sunday, I saw that he was just saying what he experienced which I found honest and real. He doesn't need the money. He, like Trump, who also doesn't need the money, wants to proceed in a way that digs very deep into our “situation.”
That “situation” is the cultural war in which we find ourselves. Even if you are not a Christian or, in fact, an atheist, one cannot deny the cultural impact such a theology has had, not only in the formation of America, but the very decency of life in the world.
Are all Christians paragons of virtue? Of course not, because we are all flawed. But, the principles of Christianity are what have guided us and have provided us with the certainty of truth and love. Without these principles, easily observed in the world throughout time, civilization is lost to chaos. Just sayin'.
In a former post on The Cube “Is There Really a God”, I told about an experience I had that defied explanation. It seems to me Kanye has had that same experience, as did a few of my Cube comrades.
As a singer, I think I can see what it takes to make these sounds. Actually, you probably can, too. In my opinion, you cannot make these sounds without digging deep into your soul. These sounds Kanye makes touch me deeply. I have added my voice in many choirs, both professional (Los Angeles Master Choral, Roger Wagner Choral) as well as many other non-professional choirs. I did it because I love singing with others. That being said, I only wish I could sing with Kanye's absolutely stunning, inspired choir.
I encourage you to listen to just three for now. I've already posted one. Maybe one will be enough, but I've provided the other two for ease of instant gratification should you be so inclined.
Here's another:
This is where Chase the Rapper testifies and comes to the bottom of himself. The way the choir embraces him with their support and love is just flat out awesome!
Next: Saint Pablo Sunday Service:
Incredible! This is where people are praying to the night sky, hoping that God will say “Hi.”
