And this is exactly why Russia wants to annex Ukraine, so that various Obezyanas wouldn't be able to say that every good thing about Russia came from Ukraine (which it did).
In a highly centralized empire, if you want to make something of yourself and be successful, you must speak the imperial language and preferably move to one of the major imperial cities. Which a lot of Ukrainians have done.
