The People's Cube - Political Satire

For those of us who've been watching the various iterations of Star Trek over many years, it's no secret that Earth has become a one-world government and money is a thing of the past.

The military structure of Star Fleet aside, we get only glimpses of civilian life on Earth, where it seems The Glorious World of Next Tuesday has arrived We know there are robot police who address people as "citizen," but get few clues as to how Earth is governed. So it was almost jaw-dropping to see this scene in the latest episode of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. 

Carol Kane plays the older woman is the scene, Commander Pelia, and she's justifying her collection of stolen art treasure before the U.S.S. Enterprise's security officer. 


 
"I still have a bungalow in Vermont where I used to live in case this whole no-money socialist utopia thing turns out to be a fad."

You may recognize Carol Kane from The Princess Bride.


These are the voyages of the starship, Victory Over Free Enterprise.   

Other comrades enjoyed Carol Kane slapping sense into a Scrooge for his own social good.

On a tenuously related note, actor Alan Arkin has died. He portrayed Soviet Navy Lieutenant Yuri Rozanov in the 1966 film, "The Russians Are Coming, The Russians Are Coming," a farce about a Soviet submarine stranded off the coast of a small American town.

I've always had my suspicions about Star Trek, but I could never quite put my calloused finger on it. Now the puzzle is complete.



If only we could see what was coming in 2008...

I would love to see it (and the reactions) on Twitter, but Comrade Musk has made that impossible without signing in and becoming a member, which I won't do even for all the gold-pressed latinum in Quadrant IV.

Fabulous movie. When I first saw it, the roof on Tractor Barn #2 wasn't leaking yet.

This jarred a recollection that Earth, The Federation and Star Fleet use "credits" instead of money.

It's no stretch to guess their credits are social and based on ESG (Earth-Star-Galaxy) scores.

Arkin was a good friend of a late dear friend, which will make me miss the former as well as the latter.
