Since then, socialism has been repackaged every decade in a shiny new wrapper—but it still smells like something died in it.

I can't believe you just said the most equal Colonel is "colored".  I thought that bourgeois term went out of favor a long time ago.

Adding so many new grocery store employees is going to require beaucoup self check out counters to cover the no profit margins for New York households. Maybe cutting costs by importing Spam from Cuba, or something.

Centralized control of the food supply has resulted in a People’s Utopia™ EVERY TIME it has been tried.  (As long as one defines a People’s Utopia™ as the death by starvation of 1/3 of the captive population.)  Perhaps Comrade Candidate Mamdani does not wish to eradicate 1/3 of the population of NY, NY through starvation.  Perhaps he truly believes that he and his sycophants will be the ones to “do it right™”.  Perhaps he just wants to make a super sized omelet and feels the need to break many eggs.  Perhaps he is unburdened by what has gone before?  This was also one of the first campaign promises for the Harris / Waltz candidacy.  Must be a Democrat thing.

As usual, the communist ham-handed approach is a huge change for the sake of The People™ followed by a huge debacle for everyone.

Supermarkets make only about one percent profit, so it's not as if they're marking up prices to make themselves into cigar-chomping tycoons. Product prices are high in NYC because NYC produces almost nothing that goes on supermarket shelves—almost everything has to be imported into NYC.

Why is importation a problem? Because everything has to be brought in via airports or over bridges and through tunnels that charge huge tolls. So the provisioners have to mark up their charges to offset the tolls charges, and supermarkets have to raise prices to pay for it.

Why the high tolls? To reduce traffic congestion. What's NYC's solution to traffic congestion? Charging congestion fees to commercial traffic while building more "green areas" that interrupt traffic flow by cuting off certain streets and avenues to discourage driving in NYC, raising the costs to provisioners who deliver products to supermarkets, and supermarkets have to raise prices to pay for it.

Why does NYC make it's tolls and fees so expensive? Because it's run by socialists, communists, and manipulatable imbeciles who squander every cent on bleeding-heart social issues; failed union-run education; criminals who take advantage of a hobbled police department rendered ineffective by the anti-police, anti-enforcement, Soros-owned DA; fraud and graft; and a sanctuary city policy combined with a massive influx of illegal aliens that NYC is determined to house and support at taxpayer expense.

And—tah-dah—a native population fleeing because they can't afford to pay for both groceries and rent because rent is too high because renters are fleeing because the impossible cost of living in NYC forces landlords to charge higher prices because landlords lose money over fewer leases but still have to pay NYC property taxes and permit fees.

To quote Jack Nicholson's Joker, "What this city needs is an enema."

I think his official campaign slogan should be Red Square's "A Century of Failure Proves Nothing", or "A Vote For Me is a Vote for the Glorious World of Next Tuesday"

By "native" population, I meant non illegal-alien population. NYC spends above and beyond what's required for basic government services as it is, but  NYC's additional, uncalled-for and illegal sanctuary city policy (and other socialist policies) have made remaining in NYC untenable for much of the population. 

NY Democrats bringing in an antisemitic, islamo-communist mayor through the corrupt shell game of ranked-choice voting is just the icing on this shitty cake.
