Last night on the MSNBC show Scarborough Country, host Joe Scarborough, a former Republican congressman from Florida, dipped into his bag of quotes and pulled out one from Joseph Stalin. As Scarborough was digging through some of Hurricane Katrina's wreckage in Mississippi, he found a picture of an elderly couple and stated something to this effect: "As Joseph Stalin once said, 1 million deaths is just a statistic, but one death is a tragedy."
And who'd know better than our beloved Uncle Joe, who chalked up about 20 million deaths during his tenure as Soviet dictator! Wow, think about it comrades--a former Republican congressman quoting Stalin so unabashedly and without qualification, thereby tacitly endorsing the utopian experiment. He obviously knew who to go to bring more gravitas to his own thoughts. It seems like Chris Matthews is starting to rub off on Joe.
Our influence in the media is even more powerful than we thought! Now, we've manipulated our enemies into helping us rehabilitate the image of Uncle Joe. Maybe tonight, Scarborough will trot out some wisdom from Mao, Kim il-Sung, or even Pol Pot!
