Mandating religious precepts through the platform of a political party is akin to mandating Sharia Law.

Dear Comrades,

Along with the useful idiots on the left, we must show gratitude to those useful idiots on the right. Take the Texas GOP, for example. Below is a portion of their Texas GOP 2010 Platform. Behold the useful idiocy in their words.

These useful idiots will help Democrats win election after election after election, especially with the help of the Huff n' Puff post broadcasting it far and wide.

Here are the Golden Words of Useful Idiocy presented by the Texas GOP 2010 Party Platform. Feel free to inform all of your prog friends so that they may be encouraged to steer clear of any Rethuglican candidates no matter what state they live in.

Marriage and Divorce – We believe in the sanctity of marriage and that the integrity of this institution should be protected at all levels of government. We urge the Legislature to rescind no–fault divorce laws. We support Covenant Marriage.

Marriage Licenses – We support legislation that would make it a felony to issue a marriage license to a same-sex couple and for any civil official to perform a marriage ceremony for such.

Homosexuality – We believe that the practice of homosexuality tears at the fabric of society, contributes to the breakdown of the family unit, and leads to the spread of dangerous, communicable diseases. Homosexual behavior is contrary to the
fundamental, unchanging truths that have been ordained by God, recognized by our country's founders, and shared by the majority of Texans. Homosexuality must not be
presented as an acceptable “alternative” lifestyle in our public education and policy, nor should “family” be redefined to include homosexual “couples.” We are opposed to any granting of special legal entitlements, refuse to recognize, or grant special privileges including, but not limited to: marriage between persons of the same sex (regardless of state of origin), custody of children by homosexuals, homosexual partner insurance or retirement benefits. We oppose any criminal or civil penalties against those who oppose homosexuality out of faith, conviction, or belief in traditional values.

Texas Sodomy Statutes – We oppose the legalization of sodomy. We demand that Congress exercise its authority granted by the U.S. Constitution to withhold jurisdiction from the federal courts from cases involving sodomy.

Pornography – We urge our governmental bodies to enforce laws regarding all forms of pornography. We urge more stringent legislation to prohibit all pornography including virtual pornography and operation of sexually–oriented businesses. We oppose the sale of “Not Rated” (NR) movies and video games to minors.

Ethics in Broadcasting – We call upon the Federal Communications Commission to revoke broadcast licenses of stations that air programs and advertisements in violation of existing laws and FCC guidelines.

These people are so full of prejudices! What is wrong with sodomy if the other animal or person is wanting sodomy?! Who do these reichwingers think they are, our Mamma & Vati.

These sodomy laws are such a conundrum. If a Mooslim man conducts offshore drilling with a donkey, this is legal, under Sharia Law. However, if Comrade Bill Clinton had forcibly Lewinskied Lewinski, he would have been brought up, not on charges of rape, but on charges of sodomy. However, since Lewinski freely allowed herself to be sodomized, does this make the act of sodomy a presidential act?

I'm going to make a prediction that I would rather it not come true. Thanks to the fools of the Texas GOP and their bigoted platform, Rick Perry will not win a third term, and we will be under the governance of one of the worst of the worst of Clinton cronies. He will hand the oil companies right over to the regime. I should know. He is the former mayor of Houston, Bill White. Pasty, leftist, socialist, Bill White.

I'm sure the problem can be easily resolved the Chicago way. All the oil refiners have to do is put some of Obama's friends on their board of directors. Or just give them high paying no-show Union jobs. Like the job Michelle got at that Chicago Hospital that was slated to be shut down, until Obama stepped in and rallied support to keep it open.

Ha Ha. Yes, that's a good suggestion. But I do wonder how the Chicago way would mix with the Texas way. Where is Theocritus? He would know.

Meh. I'm far more concerned of the unwritten bigotry of the liberal left than any (overall) meaningless bigotry written on paper by the right.

I suppose starting in late Sept. we'll get a whiff of the demise of Perry or not, Leninka. I hope and pray White doesn't win but regardless of the GOP, I think Perry will keep the job. He's not much of a conservative, after all. But I do wonder how long this state has left before the left takes it over and finishes us off, like California. The disease of Liberalism is deadly.

This is what is ensuring the Republican Party will remain irrelevant. In fact it is this kind of stiff, unbending thinking that attempts to legislate morals that we all rally against when the left does it. Mark my words, should this become a growing trend, we will see our own homegrown version of fundamentalist muslim crazies. Just because they claim to be "pro family" or "christian" does not change the very dangerous fact they are strict fundamentalists who wish to impose THEIR morals and THEIR views on how things should be ran on everyone else.As a libertarian that whole platform made me twitch.

Not everyone is as pragmatic and reasonable as you.* Of course, their chances of getting any of this into law are slim, but the offensive language can and will turn away many independent voters. I knew there was going to be a fight about this sooner or later, and if it effects our elections this fall, we will have no choice about it.

I have been a practicing Buddhist (a sect for nearly 34 years, but a life long ReichWinger, and have nothing but admiration and respect for most Christians. I'm afraid the tolerance and respect hasn't always been reciprocated.

What startles me about this latest Texas 2010 Platform wording, is how it contrasts with what I remember about a Rebublican governor way back in the 1960's who threw out old sodomy laws (this was in Colorado). As for no fault divorce, my husband was once married to one of the most despicable blood sucking monsters you can conjure up in your mind. Without a no-fault divorce law, he would have been completely destroyed in both spirit and mind.

If I remember correctly, and I might not, that sodomy law in Texas was dumped several years ago. I know several states have or had, similar.

I don't see porno could be "legislated out"... like it or not, it's part of freedom of choice. We have restrictions on where is can be sold.

Is this stuff for real? Or just someone throwing out a template to see what sticks?

You are korrect. In the case of consenting adults, the Supreme Court deemed it unconstitutional. This is why the Texas Platform is so disturbing to me.

As for the use of the word sodomy in cases where someone is victimized, I looked up Texas rape statutes and now, any kind of rape, no matter the orifice, is now referred to as "sexual battery." However, I still hear news anchors on the local news here, where they speak of criminals who are charged with "sodomy" and "rape" of a victim.


Congress has a majority of 80 Democrat representatives, and we may see many of them lose elections. Nevertheless, it may be a tougher uphill battle than we think. As Colonel 7.62 has stated, Republicans have become irrelevant, and they don't seem to understand why.

And now we are seeing Democrats win because third party candidates are splitting the vote. Take the man, below for instance. In the Minnesota election, he won because, the Libertarian candidate garnered over 11,000 votes. In the meantime, we are losing our country to commies.

Why didn't GOP senators, self-described opponents of judicial activism, ask Elena Kagan about the 2003 Lawrence vs. Texas decision which struck down state sodomy laws? According to Matt Chapman of Reason:

The decision bore the telltale signs of liberal activism: It did not rest on any clear provision of the Constitution. It did not match up with the laws in effect at the time of the nation's founding. It discarded well-established precedents. And it created a social policy strongly favored by liberals.

I think it's because the choose not to "see why". They seem to think they can carry on with the same status quo that got them throw out of office, now that the socialist have gained so much angst. They need to see that their cronie capitalism is part of their problem. I have my fears they'll retain their self-imposed blindness.

My opinion, the Minnesota election wasn't "won" by that fool but was won by simple, vast and well known cheating.

Whoopie, the Repubs, once again, failed to do their sworn duty, regarding Kagan. Point out her flaws and state why she isn't qualified.. then boycott or at least vote NO. Spineless wimps - a big problem for so many Repubs.

And, ironically, the peoples of the People's Republic of Minnesota (if you ever go there, you will get a little taste of a true socialist state--suppression of ideas and speech, included in the package--just ask Comrade Elliott), pride themselves in having "high moral values." But all it took to raise the count enough for the Frankenstein to win was a few county election officials who knew how to find better voter "miscounts" than anyone else.

you're right of course. The cheater was open and public and they didn't even care. How many voting ballots can you find in the TRUNK of a car? The answer: enough to win any election.
Isn't the Gov. a Republican? Didn't he say he didn't have a problem with the election? Doesn't this same man want to run for President?

Here is how I see it. The US has had in the last 150 years or so been plagued by two kinds of moral crusaders, both of which evolved from all the various Christian sects that settled this country. On one hand with have the rabid conservative fundamentalists. These are the ones who want to outlaw porn, gay marriage/sex, out of wedlock pregnancies and all that sort of stuff. They are the prohibitionists who seek to control what we put into our bodies, and where we stick our genitals. Then we have the bleeding hearts who evolved with the big cities. They are wrapped up in fairness, social justice, making sure that "someone" takes care of "the oppressed" etc... For the life of me I don't know which one is worse. The rapid right wingers want to control what happens in your bedroom, and generally contain the more militant racists. The rabid left wingers... well we know about them.

We know what is wrong with the left. We often turn a blind eye to the right simply because they are not the left. I believe Robert Heinlein painted a picture of a United States overrun by the radical right in many of his books; Friday is an example that comes quickly to mind. If we allow the kind of neocon and radical fundamentalist agenda that is shown here to survive and grow within the right, we will not have to worry about becoming the United Socialist States of Amerika; we will have to worry about becoming the Christian Republic of the United States of America. Both horrify me.

These Texas GOP persons are an insult to Islam. They have absolutely no right to interpret Sharia Law. What does an Infidel know of the Great Words of Allah and, and ..........sigh..........Christians????? Paaaleeeze!
