μ-QUIZ : Determine University :

Students at the prestigious < University/Amiland > examined ways Islamophobia may be “accelerating” global warming.

At an event hosted by the Ecology and Justice Forum in Global Studies and Languages on Monday, University of Melbourne professor Ghassan Hage examined “the relation between Islamophobia as the dominant form of racism today and the ecological crisis.”

The description of the talk asserts there are four ways in which global warming and Islamophobia are linked. The event claims:

[The talk] looks at the three common ways in which the two phenomena are seen to be linked: as an entanglement of two crises, metaphorically related with one being a source of imagery for the other and both originating in colonial forms of capitalist accumulation. The talk proposes a fourth way of linking the two: an argument that they are both emanating from a similar mode of being, or enmeshment, in the world, what is referred to as ‘generalised domestication.'

Hage serves as the “Future Generation Professor in the School of Philosophy, Anthropology and Social Inquiry” at the University of Melbourne.

Despite being a critic of Islamophobia, Hage is a vocal supporter of the BDS (boycott, divestment, and sanctions) movement against Israel. While supporting nationalism for Palestinians, Hage wrote multiple books addressing his disdain for nationalism, including “Against Paranoid Nationalism: Searching for Hope in a Shrinking Society” and “White Nation: Fantasies of White Supremacy in a Multicultural Society.”

Sounds like your standard, off-the-shelf “science” charlatan, milking the “research-fund” cash cow, regurgitating the pompous “prog-science” jargon and korrektly pushing all the “prog-agenda” buttons. The kind of “science” you get served courtesy of the funny (and technically, in terms of the software behind it, non-trivial) Postmodernism Generator. Go here, and each refresh of the page yields a new “sciency” gobbledygook. The jargon, consciosly developed as to be maximally impenetrable, is so dense (in both meanings), that - not being a “specialist” - you really can't convincingly claim that the 100% PoMo-gibberish is, indeed, just gibberish.

Another seminal approach in demonstrating the vapidity, packaged in bombastic word salad, was the Sokal affair (quickie) of 1996 - a hoax obvious to anyone with a solid background in natural sciences.

Guess which university this was.

Things developed by its researchers, inter alia :

- Cybernetics (Norbert Wiener)
- Stroboskopy (extreme high-speed photography and film, Doc Edgerton)
- Radar (team)
- Information Theory (Claude Shannon)

It's highly active, inter alia, in :

- AI
- Robotics
- Cryptography

- Noam C is still here (emeritus)

- (as of 2015) 85 Nobel laureates, 19 Turing Award* winners (hello, Informatchiks), and 6 Fields Medalists** (hello, Mathematchiks), 52 National Medal of Science recipients, and 34 astronauts have been affiliated with < University >.

* equivalent of Nobel Prize in Informatics.
** equivalent of Nobel Prize in Mathematics.
( yep, got it : MIT, Cambridge, MA )
