What a Coincidence!

How ironic that these two headlines were juxtaposed as seen on a news page.

Comrade! Poverty is what we say it is. True, a Socialist economy cannot produce consumer goods - or even food - sufficient to the mewling demands of the proletariat, but WE decide what constitutes "poverty." If you have a job in the gulag sweatshop, a hard pallet upon which to sleep in the gulag barracks, and your portion of the thin, watery soup from the gulag kitchen, how can you claim to live in poverty? The state has provided you with food, shelter, and a way to while away the hours of the day.

How much of that 81 million sterling went to alleviate poverty and how much went to building spare dachas for the Party elite (in case the second and third dachas wear out or get dirty)?

I really don't know but it reminds me of a bona fide Soviet joke from the 1950s:

CHINA to USSR: We starve. Send food.
USSR to CHINA: Tighten your belts.
CHINA to USSR: Send belts.

the mythical horned rodent's mind is blown to learn this is the way poverty - however it is defined - is eliminated. All it takes is a charitable nation and a bold type press release.

The future is lookin' brighter by the day!

Is this not how Socialists all over the world "cure" poverty? Income redistribution always works! It has been done in the USSA for all of my life and look how successful it has been! Venezuela is another shining example of the success of income redistribution.
