If you've never got blackout drunk, there are generally four phases:

The first, being the last moment you can remember, and where you feel a mega-super-ultra buzz.

The second, being a black chasm that you can't remember or account for, where your brain switches off but your body keeps going, like a zombie. Usually doing things you'll regret later and making messes for non-zombie you to clean up later.

The third, when zombie-you hops into bed with all your clothes still on.

The fourth, when you wake up, feeling like you got ran over by a steamroller, wondering why you're still wearing the pants you wore yesterday, and sometimes who shat in them.

The Democraps have been pounding back the power for so long that they've blacked out, and are currently in the second stage described above. With the poll numbers and overall feeling in the country, I'd say they are right on the cusp of going from the second into the third phase.
