Belated Happy Birthday AK-47

The world owes you a debt we can never repay. You have occupied the hands of terrorists worldwide. You have indiscriminately redistributed a wealth of ammunition for over 60 years. You may not be accurate or pretty but you take a licking and keep on ticking. Your mechanical tolerances are loose, your trigger sloppy and your safety selector noisy but even an unwashed peasant can figure you out. You may be heavy and cranky. You're certainly cheap. But you are definitely "killer"...Here's to you AK, keep knocking 'em dead.

User avatar
I denounce Comrade Whoopie!

General Kalashnikov could not control the ways the Soviets distributed his creation, and on top of that, without the AK-47, the Israelis never would have had the Galil rifle. And countless numbers of law abiding Americans would be forced to own a strange gas blowback operated rifle designed by Eugene Stoner and optimistically termed a "battle rifle".

Let us not denounce the tool, but rather the tool user!

User avatar
Comrade 7.62, I notice you didn't address any of the points I made, but instead bring up the "red herring" of the gas system. Saul Alinsky would be proud of your devious, albeit dubious debating skills.

You also failed to note that Israeli's abandoned the Galil in favor of the "black rifle" you so disdain (why do you hate blacks? are you racist?).

I might also add that the AK-47 is the last modern military firearm that has wood on it. Every time an AK is manufactured a tree dies.

Finally, how dare you trash the PeopleTM for using the tools they given? Shame on you comrade...shame.

May all your lacquered, steel cased, corrosive primed ammo rust in your red plastic magazines.

(Red Square, this could be the start of long thread, better get a bigger HD for the server)

User avatar
I also denounce the M-16 for having tight tolerances, and a round more suitable to shooting poodles than actual combat. Comrade Whoopie, if you wish a .22, the Ruger 10/22 is much cheaper and more reliable.

Furthermore I denounce Comrade Whoopie for lacking "awareness" of the new AK series issued by Mother Russia which features black composite stocks. No more trees die. Modern oil based plastics are used instead.

I suggest Israel went to the "Black Rifle" from US thug like pressure!

I denounce anyone too stupid to wrap a bit of paracord, tape, string, or other similar material around the safety switch on an AK to silence it!

I denounce Comrade Whoopie for still believing corrosive ammo is widely manufactured. All of my Tula made Wolf ammo is non corrosive, and my magazines are tough Com Bloc steel (except for the polymer US made Pro-Mag I bought on a whim).

I denounce those who use magazines made of soda can aluminium!

(I second Whoopie's notion Red Square. Get a bigger HD for the server. The AK vs AR-15/M-16 debate has hit the Cube!)

User avatar
Comrade Colonel, I thank you for raising my awareness of Russia's wisdom in copying the black rifle's polymer stocks. I notice that some versions of the AK now sport the CAR-15 adjustable butt stock as well.

Your mockery of the 5.56mm round tells me that you are no fan of the AK-74 and it's even dinkier 5.4mm ammunition. But we'll save ballistics for another day.

How exactly do you wrap anything around the safety lever on an AK since it lays flat against the cheesy stamped metal receiver? And how would that silence the loud "clack" that emanates from within that tin box?

I find it amusing that in order to move that lever you must take your hand off the gun, just as you must remove the magazine to fold or extent the wobbly steel stock. And let's not forget how that stock can leave a oily rust stain on your shoulder.

I won't even bother to dismiss the primitive rear sight since the gun is so inherently inaccurate putting sights on it amounts to cosmetic optimism.

Finally, so as not to seem an elitist snob I won't suggest that there is any difference in quality between the $400 AK and the $1200 marvel of engineering produced by Colt Industries.

Comrades! I denounce BOTH of you for being gun wielding, bible clinging fascists!!!! You must turn your illegal weapons into the Authorities ™ immediately.

And I too celebrate the birthday of the Glorious Weapon which slaughtered many hate-mongering Americans in Vietnam. But.....what does "Nappu biyatdatch" mean? Sigh....when will people learn the tongue of Mother Russia!

The Tsarevna wrote: Comrades! I denounce BOTH of you for being gun wielding, bible clinging fascists!!!! You must turn your illegal weapons into the Authorities ™ immediately.

I second that, seems these Comrades are "bitterly clinging to their guns and their religion".

I suspect they have been secretly attending tea-parties and jerking off to photos of Sarah Palin, Michelle Bachmann, and Fox News personalities.

We must investigate these claims immediately.

User avatar
Comrades please, in none of our posts did either me or the good Colonel mention anything about religion. However, the seriousness of these trumped up charges demands an investigation...of the people making the false claims.

Secondly, although I can't speak for the Colonel, I myself am authorized by the ruling regime to carry loaded weapons in public. As we all know, anything that is permitted by the regime is mandatory, all else is forbidden.

And if the Colonel is listening, I do want to compliment the AK's flash hider. Oh wait, it doesn't have a flash hider. Well, that angled muzzle brake thingy looks useful... for digging foxholes.

So you don't deny the other charge Comrade? You know, the stuff that makes you go blind?

Quit "stroking my ego" comrade, it doesn't do you justice. (innocent smirk)

I denounce Comrade Whoopie yet again. As I'm sure he is aware we are discussing the AK-47, not the 74. We all know the 7.62x39mm round is vastly superior to the 5.56mm round the poodle shooter... err AR-15/M-16 shoots.

I denounce Eugene Stoner for being dead, while Comrade General Kalashnikov is still alive and working four days a week at the Izmash factory.

I would remind the comrades here that many GI's have thrown their M-16's away in favor of the AK-47. I routinely shoot with such a man.

I too am licensed by the appropriate authorities to carry a loaded weapon in public, so the standard denounciations of being a gun owner of course do not apply. I denounce those who denounce people who are authorized to carry weapons.

The simple mechanical delight that is the AK-47 will continue to function under adverse conditions long after the highly machined, refined and overly tightly built AR-15 ceases to run. (That is to say Comrades, please don't get a grain of sand into the action of an AR, lest it jam. And please, who prefers a rifle that uses a flexible piece of tubing to run the operating system?)

I am saddened that Comrade Whoopie feels the need to shoot sub MOA, when minute of enemy of the state is sufficient and all that is needed in a combat weapon. If you want to shoot MOA or sub MOA get Comrade Dragonuv's noble rifle.

User avatar
It is not yet time, comrades, to start shooting people. We only shoot them when they are trying to break out of the concentration camps realignment centers where we send people who are not deliriously happy to be under the governance of Oblowme.

User avatar
Colonel comrade, back on the issue of the gas tube, eh? Well, ok I'll concede that using a gas tappet system with an operating rod would be an improvement.

But in an emergency, provided you have a hammer and pin punch, you can always take out that stainless steel gas tube to sip your cocktail at the NCO club.

I understand why the AK must work even when covered in filth. You can't expect a smelly peasant to keep his rifle clean when he himself doesn't know the value of soap and water.

As for the "excessive" accuracy of the AR, I got things to do Colonel. I can't sit around all day waiting for the enemy to get within AK range before engaging them.

User avatar
Comrade Whoopie, I personally do not favor my cocktails flavored with a hint of nitrocellulose powder.

Also, I suggest that for the AK or the AR the effective range is within 300 yards tops, as is typical for a mid powered rifle. Given that, the much more powerful 7.62x39mm wins heads down. Unless again, one is only shooting at poodles.

I expect one to keep their rifle clean, but sadly combat does not happen in a sterile enviroment, even though Eugene Stoner must have thought that was the case.

User avatar
What is this talk of combat? I thought that everything was settled. We live in fly-over country, where Nanski flies over in her 747 and shits on everyone. Why is there a need for a rifle?

User avatar
Comrade Colonel, you don't shoot *at* the enemy from 300 yds. with an AK. You throw a hail of bullets in their general direction and hope that some unlucky person downrange stands up or walks into the path of said bullets.

I see that this thread has been bumped off onto page 2, so before it winds up on page 3 I think it's time to start a new thread on ballistics.

Perhaps you'd like to start it this time by hailing the glorious 7.62 x39 cartridge. Maybe Al Gore and his cadre of Climatologists can provide you with all the data you'll need to make your case.

Pfffff. Real socialist have saiga 12 shotgun with 20 round drums.

User avatar
A real socialist has a bullhorn with a recording of Our Many Titted Empress who has just been told that Bill has been caught "attached" at a tender point to Monica and that Fox News had a camera crew there.

The new AK-103 that Venezuala will be building a ton of for some reason:

Both the AK-47 and the M16/M4 break during firefights due to design problems. Give me an HK416 anyday.

Deutsch Dumkopf Kalashnikov always goes klack, klack, klack like music of motherland victory march. When music stops you can go clubbing. Serious firearm like decadent american timex watch. Takes a lickin and keeps on tickin. Prissy american bb rifle on other hand .... not so much.

User avatar
Excuse me Comrades, the AK-103 picture requires I have some special alone time... Also I just purchased 100 rounds of 7.62x39mm made by our noble comrades in the birthplace of Vlad Lennin! The Ulyanovsk Cartridge Works.

User avatar
Colonel while you polish your bayonet over the AK-103, I also find it necessary to lock myself in the bathroom with a copy of the HK416 specs. Ah, the perfect rifle perfected.

And now I'm off to the bunker to complain to Red Square about the way the site has been behaving lately. It's getting tiresome just trying to leave a comment.

It is beyond my pay grade to be certain of the reason behind the slower speed of the Cube, but I wonder if it is a function of an increased amount of traffic. Like all good Progressive endeavors, I am sure that the Cube is not as lucrative, as say, a single ACORN membership. Perhaps if more of the Kollective hit the tip jar...

User avatar
A noble suggestion Comrade Theo. As soon as my Capitalist Exploitation Units come in Friday I shall redistribute some wealth to the Glorious Collective!
