Cost of Mail to Go Up to Cover Surveillance Costs

In more damaging leaked documents from the NSA, it has been revealed that starting in 2014 all mail will be processed through a new postal facility that will receive, open, scan, and then distribute all letters and parcels mailed in the US or abroad that will be delivered to US addresses.

Currently there are several mail receiving centers where all incoming parcels from foreign countries are currently inspected for drugs or other banned or dangerous substances like beauty products. Starting next year it is not only planned to open all parcels, but to start scanning all letters so that the content of each envelope can be digitally imaged and then stored in the massive NSA data center.

It is hinted that since all e-mail traffic is already intercepted, that terrorists and other thought kriminals might find a low tech alternative to electronic communications, old fashioned snail mail. Not only will it level the playing field, but provide more embarrassing images on social networking sights as NSA employees share some of the more racy correspondence with family and friends.

The cost of this service will not be cheap however. Rumors of a three fold increase in postal rates will be well justified taking into account all the added security that will be provided to the motherland.

I heard the federal govt was gathering up all the old FAX machines and they were going to replace our mailboxes with them. You just feed your mail in and they will pass on whatever they think they should to whoever they think needs to see it.

Before the mail-scanning system (or lack of it) is put into place, we must have a decree making paper mail mandatory. Otherwise, counterrevolutionaries might elude the system. Better yet, all communications must be applied for through state of federal exchanges, where masses will choose e-mail, phone, text, tweet, paper mail, or (and why has no one thought of this before?) face-to-face voice or sign language communication. These selections, of course, will also be collected and stored in surveillance databases. Endless possibilities here, and many opportunities for Benevolent State to increase and thrive.

Comrade Diaperette, every time I see your name it reminds me of this song:

I don't know why.

But it could be a good re-written theme song :)

Comrades
As a retired People's Postperson, allow me. The People's Post has been using photo technology for routing purposes since we ditched those old Letter Sorting Machines you used to see on the 5 o'clock when Post Commissars got interviewed before the holidays. Now Christmas cards are almost gone too. The only interference back then from the NSA was Barbara Bush's in house trolling for imported smut, and who was subscribing to Soldier of Fortune. My mail from the UK was opened once. And when I went to the Postal Inspectors about it, I was asked if I liked my job and wanted to keep it. So in very Truth, the Demoncrats and Repukelicans are just 2 heads on the same f***ing snake.
That is all.

Comrade R.O.C.K., I hope they are not doing in leatherettes what is doing in diaperettes. Warm is even worse.

Every time I come here - I learn something new that I never knew before.... I feel like I must have lived a very protected life in my socialist school system - my high school was a 2-time Edward Bellamy award winning progressive school - back when this song came out (I had to look up who they were). Have I got a lot to still learn. Well, at least I learned how to properly use a shovel - the People's Army made sure of that!
