Crichton Novel Re-shelved as Non-Fiction, Librarians Upset

Michael Crichton's novel “State of Fear” has been officially reclassified as non-fiction today, and Librarians around the world have to physically move the book to their non-fiction sections as well as re-enter it in their computer systems.

The 2004 novel about a world-wide conspiracy of self-serving lawyers and environmental groups that seek to fool the public into thinking Global Warming is real, was recently proven to be a true story, and therefore can't stay on the fiction shelves anymore.

Ms. Fanny Callister, the spokeswoman for the American Library Association, was visibly agitated at a press conference yesterday afternoon. “The Dewey decimal system wasn't designed for the reclassification of materials. This just messes up everything.” she said with a loud sigh. “I told Gerty (fellow librarian Gertrude Smith) this would happen. The author included a non-fiction essay in the appendix that provides an historical example of hundreds of scientists getting caught up with a popular fad which was disproved after a decade or so. I said when the book came out it was a bad idea to mix fiction and non-fiction like that.”

Librarians are concerned they may have to do this again after unconfirmed reports of live dinosaur sightings were received from a remote island in the Pacific.
