Goodbye, America, My Country!

User avatar

This October I received a few chain mails from my Russian-speaking friends with a Russian-language poem titled "Goodbye, America" by Alexander Matlin, an ex-Soviet satirist now living in New Jersey. Brilliantly written, it contained all signs of the traditional Russian nostalgia with references to erstwhile Soviet realities. I didn't post it then because the American masses reading this organ are not yet proficient in the Mother Tongue.

But last night I received a masterful translation into kapitalist from our bi-lingual reader Ilya Kazakov, who wrote: "Dear Red Square and the staff! No longer being able to hold my emotions and my unstoppable desire to serve the collective, I made a bold move and translated into English a poem written by one of our former countrymen, Alexander Matlin. To show my dedication to the cause and my steadfast loyalty to the idea of building a better future for all, I have attached both the original and the translated versions. I am sure you will find that posting this informative material on your site will serve the cause of helping many of our English-speaking comrades see the light and join the movement."

Acorn' а славные полки.

Звучит сигнал: вперёд, к надежде!
Народ ликует: Yes, we can!

Fox.

GOODBYE, AMERICA!
(translated by Ilya Kazakov)

Goodbye, America, my country!
Goodbye, my dearest, goodbye.
Above our heads is rising sultry,
Socialistic crimson sky.

From Western lands to the Eastern border
From Northern lakes to Florida estates
We will create a better social order
Just like the one they had in the Soviet states.

Denounce profits, where they abound!
With neither doubt nor redundant care
We'll redistribute wealth around
So everyone enjoys an equal share!

For all the people of this sunny nation
We'll moderate an equal monthly pay.
By way of total wealth elimination.
We'll all get poor. Poor, but the same!

We strive towards this noble goal untiring.
We are so close, we're sure almost there.
Already numerous Acorn battalions
Are waiting for the final signal flare.

And then we heard HIS voice elated:
"The hope!", "The change", and "Yes, we can!"
HE, neatly dressed, for stardom slated,
To build this land anew began.

Aside cast doubts, qualms, and fears
HIS hand steers firmly towards the sun.
For us... We shall extend a hand to peers:
Iran, Al-Qaida, Cuba, Taliban.

Venezuela, China, North Korea
Hamas and Burma, and everyone else.
We'll blush, apologize. For this idea
They will forgive us our offense.

We'll feed them all, of course no strings attaching.
(They're our foes no more just so you know).
And then at last, our behavior so touching,
The world will love us dearly once more.

There won't be turning back allowed
We'll press ahead together, no dissent.
We'll treat the sick for free of charge, no doubt
To keep the workforce healthy and content.

We'll love ourselves and one another.
For godly deeds, we'll simply worship HIM.
Instead of burning oil and coal we rather
Should keep this country and the planet green.

While stubbornly ahead we're storming
The evil of capitalism killing,
We'll stop the spread of global warming
And heat producing shameless profiteering.

Let children of this people's nation
Recite aloud cheerful hoorays.
And thank their leader with exhilaration
For childhood full of happy, sunny days.

No more of unapproved persuasions.
No more of undesirable qualms.
We'll come to love with utter adulation
HIS own, true religion - Islam.

We won't have need for Christ or Moses
What purpose do they now have for us?
And the CIA that trouble causes
We'll simply throw under the bus.

And then, atop white horses riding,
We'll crush the villains at their crux.
Who secretly in Pentagon are hiding,
And on TV, on the channel Fox.

The parties' quarrels irritating
Will melt like a snow on a grassy knoll
With all Republicans rotating
To "socialistas" once and for all.

We'll all be happy and ecstatic
Ourselves and neighbors loving while.
And if you're not... Well, there's the Arctic
Where one may end up in exile.

The sky gets dark, the night is scary.
A frost chained any glimpse of thought.
It's cold and we're feeling wary...
Can't we stop madness's onslaught?

We ran from it, yet again it's shown
In Socialism's ugly scowl.
It's so familiar, so known.
Shall we run again? But where now?

UPDATE:

We have established a friendly relationship with the author who likes our site and was happy to see the poem published on the People's Cube. He also told us that this poem has already been translated into Polish and sent us a PDF file.

Already after I posted this I discovered another translation made by Diana in Los Angeles and the publisher of this blog, improved on later by the author, Alexander Matlin. But first, the author's picture:

Image
Good bye my dearest land of freedom!
Good bye America! At last
The shining star of Socialism
Is quickly rising over us.

From Florida to Oregon,
From San Diego to Detroit
We will build our very own,
The Soviet style, brave new world.

Good bye, the chains of Capitalism!
Without doubts and regrets
We'll re-distribute country's riches,
So everyone gets equal share.

And each, as country's perfect cure,
Will be receiving equal pay.
There will be no rich and poor.
We'll all be poor, but all the same.

We will achieve our final aim,
And our success is coming on.
Already standing at attention
Those brave soldiers of ACORN.

We've got our signal: On, to Hope!
The people shout: “Yes, we can!”
And humble HE, in simple coat,
Is leading us to hope and change.

He is leading! No time to waver:
HIS hand is firmly driving us.
We will extend our hand of friendship
To North Korea and Hamas.

Iran, Venezuela, Cuba —
They'll be our friends from now on.
We will apologize profusely
And be allowed to move on.

We'll feed them all, yes, everybody,
We won't have enemies any more,
And everyone will be our buddy,
They all will love us evermore.

No turning back! Move forward only!
We won't be charging for health care,
So our people will be healthy
And fit and happy everywhere.

We'll fall in love with everybody,
The dearest HIM we will adore.
We will forbid both oil and coal –
No polluting any more!

We will achieve our noble goal
To kill Capitalism's wrath.
We will stop evil global warming
That wicked business pushed on us.

And our children everywhere
Will sing together every day
To praise and thank our dear leader
For happy life, for joyful way.

We will discourage all religions,
Or maybe we'll allow some.
Perhaps there will be one exception:
The peaceful practice of Islam.

The old Judeo-Christian values
Will no longer hold their sway.
And pretty soon we'll put on trial
The evil folks of CIA.

With our victorious devotion
We'll stop our enemies' abuse.
We'll crash all right-wing opponents
In Pentagon and at Fox News.

All the old quarrels of two parties
Will disappear, like a bad dream,
As all the members of both parties
Embrace forever Socialism.

With love and passion we'll be happy,
We'll spread our love without shame.
But those who will not be happy
Will have only themselves to blame.

The sky gets dark, the stars are shining,
The rivers covered up with ice.
And we are cold, confused, and frightened:
Is madness overcoming us?

We tried to run, to hide, but no:
Again the beast of Socialism's near.
For us it's all so well known.
Where do we now run from here?

Wow, Soviet citizens must feel like they are in some kind of twilight zone time warp. They live through hell, escape to America, only to find hell chasing them all over again, like a never-ending nightmare.

User avatar
Yes, the time warp is most entertaining is it not?

{OFF}

Thanks for sharing that Red. Sad, so very, very sad. And yet the progs keep saying commy jokes are stupid. But when people from the former USSR make the same observations/jokes they shut up and make urking noises.

I think it's appropriate to repost this last year's picture here:

This shows just how difficult it's going to be for Dear Leader to completely implement our glorious system. If too many people disappear in the middle of the night, local authorities and police departments are going to get awfully suspicious.

This is why congress must work so hard to get legislation passed in a way that makes people think it's going to be good for them. And those pesky tea baggers, even though the national news outlets have done an excellent job of censoring them as much as possible, often appear on local newscasts in every community. We really need more union thugs to counteract them.

User avatar
So very touching, I haven't wept like this since inauguration day.

The question "Where do we now run from here?" will be the most profound of the 21st Century. Not just here in America, but world wide.

Grigori E.R. wrote:The question "Where do we now run from here?" will be the most profound of the 21st Century. Not just here in America, but world wide.
Indeed, good question. Time will answer this one, unfortunately.

Goodby America; Hello Hope and Change, but what kind of change? Be careful what you change into America; you might get it - change without hope.

"Do you begin to see then what kind of world we are creating...a world of fear and treachery and torment...ours is founded upon hatred. In our world there will be no emotions except fear, rage, triumph and self-abasement; everything else we shall destroy...it will be a world of terror... The more the party is powerful the less it will be tolerant; the weaker the opposition the tighter the despotism...Always we shall have the heretic at our mercy, screaming with pain, broken up, contemptible; and in the end utterly penitent, saved from himself, crawling to our feet of his own accord. That is the world that we are preparing...If you want a picture of the future, imagine a boot stamping on a human face forever." George Orwell, 1984

America; you have been duped - shame on you. You haven't been reading your Declaration of Independence, Bill of Rights or Constitution. You haven't been reading your history books or talking to your neighbor. You haven't been thinking. You've forgotten the laws of science and the natural/sacred rights of the individual. What exactly have you been doing?

"We'll cut the links between child and parent, and between man and man, and between man and woman... In the future there will be no wives and no friends. Children will be taken from their mothers at birth as one takes eggs from a hen... Procreation will be an annual formality like the renewal of a ration card. We shall abolish the orgasm... There will be no loyalty except loyalty toward the Party. There will be no love except the love of Big Brother... There will be no heart, no literature, no science. When we are omnipotent we shall have no more need of science." George Orwell, 1984

Fraulein Obamski
"We'll all get poor. Poor, but the same!"

YES! YES! EQUALITY! LONG LIVE OUR LEADER, THE GREAT OBAM! . . . and by the way, when am I getting my check from our glorious union leaders??

We buried you with your own kind that you oppressed so long!!!! Now is the age of Obama. We, the NKVD, will run things from now on.

"Good bye, the chains of Capitalism! Without doubts and regrets
We'll re-distribute country's riches, So everyone gets equal share.
And each, as country's perfect cure, Will be receiving equal pay.
There will be no rich and poor. We'll all be poor, but all the same."

"It had long been realized that the only secure basis for oligarchy is collectivism. Wealth and privilege are most easily defended when they are possessed jointly. The so-called "abolition of private property"...meant in effect the concentration of property in far fewer hands than before... In the years following the Revolution it (Socialist Party of Oceania) was able to step into this commanding position almost un-opposed because the whole process was represented as an act of collectivization... It had always been assumed that if the Capitalist Class were expropriated Socialism must follow; and unquestionable the Capitalists had been expropriated. Factories, mines, land, houses, transport, everything had been taken away from them; and since these things were no longer private property it followed that they must be public property. Ingsoc (Socialist Principles of Oceania), which grew out of the earlier Socialist movement and inherited its phraseology, has in fact carried out the main item in the Socialist program with the result; foreseen and intended beforehand, that economic inequality has been made permanent... If human equality is to be forever averted; if the "high," as we have called them, are to keep their places permanently; then the prevailing mental condition must be controlled insanity." George Orwell, 1984

“The usual understanding of "equality," when applied to people, entails equality of rights and sometimes equality of opportunity. But what is meant in all these cases is the equalization of external conditions which do not touch the individuality of man. In socialist ideology, however, the understanding of equality is akin to that used in mathematics, i.e., this is in fact identity, the abolition of differences in behavior as well as in the inner world of the individuals constituting society. From this point of view, a puzzling and at first sight contradictory property of socialist doctrines becomes apparent. They proclaim the greatest possible equality, the destruction of hierarchy in society and at the same time a strict regimentation of all of life, which would be impossible without absolute control and an all-powerful bureaucracy which would engender an incomparably greater inequality.” Igor Shafarevich

“There is, first of all, the profound experience of Russia, the significance of which we are only now beginning to understand. The question therefore arises: will this experience be sufficient? Is it sufficient for the entire world and especially for the West? Indeed, is it sufficient for Russia? Shall we be able to comprehend its meaning? Or is mankind destined to pass through this experience on an immeasurably larger scale? There is no doubt that if the ideals of Utopia are realized universally, mankind, even in the barracks of the universal City of the Sun, shall find the strength to regain its freedom and to preserve God's image and likeness--human individuality--once it has glanced into the yawning abyss. But will even that experience be sufficient? For it seems just as certain that the freedom of will granted to man and to mankind is absolute, that it includes the freedom to make the ultimate choice--between life and death.” Igor Shafarevich

Counter Revolutionary propaganda! Capitalist lies!
Glorious Leader Obama shall unleash enforcement powers of SEIU and ACORN to re-educate those engageing in such anti-collective think!

Komrade Krinkov,
I can't help myself; sometimes I just go insane trying to figure out if the American Revolution is The Revolution and the Marxist Revolution the counter-revolution; or maybe the other way around. I guess we'll just have to let the Infallible Inner Party Priests of Power decide this issue, along with our Great Leader. I pray every day to the Party and the State for sufficient intelligent insanity (Party Doublethink), ignorance, and stupidity to lighty my way.

“World socialism as a whole, and all the figures associated with it, are shrouded in legend; its contradictions are forgotten or concealed; it does not respond to arguments but continually ignores them--all this stems from the mist of irrationality that surrounds socialism and from its instinctive aversion to scientific analysis…. The doctrines of socialism seethe with contradictions, its theories are at constant odds with its practice, yet due to a powerful instinct--also laid bare by Shafarevich--these contradictions do not in the least hinder the unending propaganda of socialism. Indeed, no precise, distinct socialism even exists; instead there is only a vague, rosy notion of something noble and good, of equality, communal ownership, and justice: the advent of these things will bring instant euphoria and a social order beyond reproach…. The author also convincingly demonstrates the diametrical opposition between the concepts of man held by religion and by socialism. Socialism seeks to reduce human personality to its most primitive levels and to extinguish the highest, most complex, and "God-like" aspects of human individuality. And even equality itself, that powerful appeal and great promise of socialists throughout the ages, turns out to signify not equality of rights, of opportunities, and of external conditions, but equality qua identity, equality seen as the movement of variety toward uniformity… It could probably be said that the majority of states in the history of mankind have been "socialist." But it is also true that these were in no sense periods or places of human happiness or creativity.” Alexander Solzhenitsyn

I emailed the author last night, and in the morning he responded:

Alex Matlin wrote:Thank you, Red Square!

Your website is wonderful. I enjoyed it very much and am happy to be its contributor. Now its circulation will drastically increase, since I emailed its link to my friends, who certainly will email it to theirs, who will also email it… and so on. It is nice to see both translations of Прощай Америка. As I know, somebody else is working on the third one. I also have it translated into Polish, but am not sure you would be interested in that one.

You probably got my email address from my website. If not, here is its address: https://sites.google.com/site/alexandermatlin/. It is mostly in Russian, but there are some stories in English, too. If you see anything of interest to you, feel free to publish it on your site. Again, thank you. Yours,

We shall stay in touch, Alex. And as far as I know, we are being visited by Polish readers as well, one of whom even contributed a classic People's Cube article:

To celebrate our glorious world of Next Tuesday, I purchased another AK-47 magazine yesterday.

This ode to future must be set to glorious musik score so children of publik school systems throughout our 57 states may serenade our Great Leader. My first thought was to utilize the tune to "Don't Cry for Me Argentina." However, no matter how appropriate the Peronista musical score, I needed to lose too many articles in English. This then led me to attmept to utilize the musik of the Jean Valjean death scene in Les Miserables. This will be ongoing project.

Regarding Pavel's commentary--Я так не думаю.

Long live the Shovel of Revolutionary Justice!!

Excellent start for our celebration Colonel, however, a mere AK-47 is a bit small. For some of us think on a larger scale.

Laika -

Deleted Pavel's post was about the Vast Huguenot Conspiracy that is allegedly corrupting the world and in part was responsible for the founding of the United States, with some Jewish references to boot. It was hard to tell whether it was in jest or in earnest, but in any case it had nothing to do with this thread.

It was also very long. He restated the deleted points later in this post here, this time keeping it to about 1/4 of the original size.

If you're really curious, Laika, you can drag Pavel to the Gulagotroll playground where you can sniff him to your heart's delight. But I don't think we can keep him on this thread.

Compare this...[BLOCKQUOTE]We tried to run, to hide, but no:

Where do we now run from here?[/BLOCKQUOTE]to this...[BLOCKQUOTE]Nowhere to run to, baby, nowhere to hide

This might be a little too late, in this post and the doom America is marching towards. I have a research paper to do for a class of mine (Have to take it to graduate), and I chose to do Communism vs. Capitalism.

Coincidentally, I found a book in the library here titled "Capitalism: The Unknown Ideal" by Ayn Rand. It's a collection of short articles, most of them her's, which champion capitalism. It's absolutely brilliant. I've only read three articles, and I'm hooked, when all is done, I'm probably going to take the time to read though.

Thank you People's Cube, you've introduced me to a brilliant philosopher.

On a different note, where would we go if we had to escape? I don't know. We can't use Europe, Africa, Asia or South America because for the most part, they are socialist/communist continents, that or there is so much war going on there it's far more dangerous to go there then here. North America is out too for the same reason. Antarctica is out because it's too cold. Australia is probably the last best hope we've got, but could a country where the majority of blokes are on one side of the continent take a sudden surge of at LEAST 10,000,000 people?

America is doomed, no matter who we put in next. The only salvation it has is a Renaissance of capitalistic ideals, and that died so long ago, no one remembers a time of it, all they know is socialism, and its offshoots.

My advice comrades, enjoy that which is left of America you cherish, whether it be the opportunities, the rights we have, or just the land itself. Enjoy it for what it has left, because some day, maybe not in your life, it will vanish. It will go quietly, just like capitalism before it.

I just updated the original post with a link to a PDF file with a Polish translation of this poem.

And Pavel, I actually liked you last post, but please, move on to some other thread and discuss anything you want there. I'd rather keep this one on topic.

I will now have to humbly approach my local death panel to beseech them for surgical procedure to eradicate the constant sound of The Vandellas singing sweetly in my ear....

And of course, Jan was NOT dreaming, and her son has been spirited off to Baby House #20 for chromosomal therapy to eradicate the conservative gene.

Ahh yes, comrade. Isn't it nice to be one of the nomenklatura and be able to own weapons? How awful it would be if the kulaks could have them and use them to resist Party Policies.

May I complement you on your choice of firearm? The AK is the preferred gun of our Islamic Freedom Fighters, S. American revolutionaries, Russian communists, and socialists everywhere. AR-type weapons smack of American Capitalism. They are the tools by which the Bu$hitler attempted to force evil democracy upon the world.

Image
"Where do we now run from here?" --Australia would seem one of the only good options but I'm a little suspicious of Australia; they have STRICT gun control. Citizens are not allowed to have guns for personal protection alone- they have to have some other specific reason. A country with unarmed citizens just seems like a sitting duck for a dictatorship.

"We will find any means we can to further restrict them because I hateguns... ordinary citizens should not have weapons. We do not want the American disease imported into Australia" -Australian Prime Minister John Howard.

Zampolit, by all means send Pavel down here. Bruno can do his hair and nails so he'll look fetching when Our Many Titted Empress comes to play. And she plays rough.

Comrade Theocritus,

There is no doubt that Bruno can have Pavel looking spiffy in no time flat! But I am worried if he will survive any attempt to "service" our Many Titted Empress, Hillary R. Clinton. Remember how traumatized Bruno was after she got through with the last prog plaything you gave her?

[quote from Comrade Elliott above - which seems to want to give me a boatload of grief at this moment so I'm not quoting it but constructing instead a wicker man for burning in effigy]

Now hold on there a cotton picking minute, my fellow frozen Minnesota popsickle.

America AS WE KNEW IT may be doomed, but the nation might not. Each generation seems to think in a similarly eschatological way, but when Rome "fell" it actually transitioned into Medieval Europe which, when it "fell" transitioned into the Renaissance and so on and so forth. Even in America we have had generations proclaiming the end of the world as we know it, from the American Revolution (most popular song? "The World Turned Upside Down") to the Reagan Revolution (most popular song? "It's the End of the World As We Know It").

I would suggest that there is nowhere to run. The stand must be made somewhere and, like Leonidas drawing the line in the sand, I say it's here. Take back the schools and colleges. Take back the public discourse. Take back the workplace and the advertising and the movies; arresting them in small skirmishes of thought and dialogue in the midst of our daily lives.

To whit I submit evidence A, George Patton; "I don't want to get any messages saying, 'I am holding my position.' We are not holding a Goddamned thing. Let the Germans do that. We are advancing constantly and we are not interested in holding onto anything, except the enemy's balls. We are going to twist his balls and kick the living shit out of him all of the time. Our basic plan of operation is to advance and to keep on advancing regardless of whether we have to go over, under, or through the enemy. We are going to go through him like crap through a goose; like shit through a tin horn!" (the real speech, not the bowdlerized Hollywood version)

To whit I submit evidence B, Claude McKay;

He was a communist in his early life, but after a visit to the Soviet Union, decided that communism was too disciplined and confining. He was never an actual member of the Communist Party.

If we must die, let it not be like hogs
Hunted and penned in an inglorious spot,
While round us bark the mad and hungry dogs,
Making their mock at our accursed lot.
If we must die, O let us nobly die,
So that our precious blood may not be shed
In vain; then even the monsters we defy
Shall be constrained to honor us though dead!
O kinsmen we must meet the common foe!
Though far outnumbered let us show us brave,
And for their thousand blows deal one deathblow!
What though before us lies the open grave?
Like men we'll face the murderous, cowardly pack,
Pressed to the wall, dying, but fighting back!

Rex, I agree with you. The place to stand is here. And there is hope. For the first time in quite some while the generic ballot is 6% more Republican than Democrat. Amazing. Six percent more people disapprove of Blobama than approve, and 13% more strongly disapprove than strongly approve.

The Virginia and NJ elections are not good for the Democrats. Nanski is delusional in saying that they won.

There are some people who want a "remoralization" of America, which I take it they mean a Leave It to Beaver America. Well, it ain't gonna happen. And NY 23 proved that America is a laissez-faire nation--the independent lost, it is said, by his strident social conservatism which he considered as important as economic conservatism. I don't see us going back there. Some good, obviously, for me, but some bad, lots of bad, too.

The best sign though is the financial failure of the lapdog/legacy media. These are the people who sneered at the Tea Parties and licked Blobama's boots. The Couric Monster has dragged the Tiffany Network down to near bankruptcy. Other leftist media organs are in bankruptcy or near it. How wonderful that people who endorse collectivist policies are dying by capitalist rejection.

I am not sanguine that 2010 will bring a reversal. But then I had no idea that 1994 would bring about such changes either. Let's hope that if 2010 does bring a tectonic political shift that this time the Republicans will not become so smug and overweening that they'll throw it all away. Like the last time.

What a happy song. Brings a tear to my eye.

Almost makes ne want to change my name to Dr. Da, in honor of "Yes We Can".

What a wonderfully progressive motto.

Teabaggerz "You can't force us to buy insurance" - Answer YES WE CAN

Teabaggerz "You can't enslave our children and their children to debt!" Answer - YES WE CAN!

Teabaggerz "You can't take away our fundemental rights!" - Answer - YES WE CAN!

This is Official Party Approved Krapitalist Translation of this song. All others are suspect of thought criminal and are being now looking at by FSB.

Good-bye, the country my native!
Good-bye, America! Any minute now
above the continent it will begin to shine
socialism the firmament.
From San Diego to Detroit
from Idaho to [Tennesi]
We our, we new peace will build
as in the Soviet, in Russia.

Down capitalism servitude!
We without the doubts and the interferences
will redistribute wealth
so that it would be equally in all.

All children of the solar
country will obtain equal wages.
It will not be poor and rich,
all will be poor, but they are equal.

We to the purpose vomit steadily,
already our [chayanya] are close,
Are already built into the columns
Of acorn' and glorious regiments.

The signal sounds: forward, to the hope!
People rejoices: Yes, we can!
And modest IT in the simple clothing,
us to the horizon the changes

It conducts. To consider not necessary:
IT holds hand on the control.
But we will lengthen the hand of friendship
to Venezuela, [Khezbole],

To Hamas, to North Korea,
to Iran, to Cuba - by all in a row.
We will apologize ourselves, let us redden,
and they will, probably forgive us.

We them will feed - all, of course,
(indeed more there are no enemies),
and it will us love warmly
entire peace of hungry and slaves.

There will not be to us ways conversely,
we as one, let us go forward.
We will treat free of charge all
so that would recuperate the people,

We will everything love each other,
HIM, native, adore.
We will forbid oil, and coal,
planet in order not to clog.

In our tendency persistent
to kill capitalism evil
we will stop global of warming -
the criminal businesses of heat-.

And will children everywhere
in the verses of mansions speak,
native leader for the childhood
happy thank.

People will not begin to worship
to the nonlegitimized gods.
In the special honor there will be
ITS religion - Islam.

Neither Christianity nor jews
will be more in the course.
But TscRu, the nest of villainy,
we simply will betray to law court.

But with track - we in the victorious ringing
of enemies will begin to destroy peddle,
that sat down secretly in the Pentagon
and on TV, in the channel Of fox.

The party differences of wound
they will pass as sleep, they will descend, as snow,
and all Republicans will become,
socialists forever.

All will be happy, to the passion
themselves and neighbor loving.
But if who will not be happy -
let he [penyaet] to itself.

Sky grows dark, will shine stars
it forged frost to [techene] of rivers.
And it beats the chill:
to really late stop follies run?

As we not hid,
again to us threatens socialism beast.
All is so familiar! So it is understandable!
Again to run? Where now?

For those with an academic interest in what the original poem says LITERALLY, here's the author's word-for-word non-rhymed version:

GOODBYE AMERICA
by Alex Matlin
(Literally translated from Russian)

Goodbye, my dearest country!
Goodbye, America! Any minute now
socialism will begin to shine
over the continent.

From San Diego to Detroit,
from Idaho to Tennessee
we will build our new world*,
just like in Soviet Russia.

Down with capitalist slavery!
Without doubts or obstacles
we will redistribute wealth,
so that everyone will have an equal share.

All children of our shining country**
will receive equal wages.
There will be no poor, nor rich;
all will be poor, but equal.

Unwavering we reach for our goals;
our dreams are already in sight.
Already lined up into columns
are the glorious regiments of Acorn.

The signal thunders: onward, to hope!
The people rejoice: Yes, we can!
And modest HE in simple clothes***
leads us forward to change.

No thinking needed:
His hand is firm upon the wheel.
And we'll extend a hand of friendship
to Venezuela, Hezbollah,

to Hamas, to North Korea,
to Iran, Cuba – everyone.
We'll blush, apologize,
and they will, hopefully, forgive.

We'll feed them all, of course,
(we have no more enemies),
and the entire world of the hungry and the slaves*
will love us wholeheartedly.

There will be no way back;
as one, we'll all march forward.
We'll offer free medicine to everyone,
so that the populace will thrive.

We, each of us, will love our neighbor
and adore HIM, the dearest, above all.
We'll outlaw all coal and oil,
so as not to pollute the planet.

As we obstinately strive
to kill the capitalist evil,
we will stop global warming,
the heat generated by criminal corporations.

And children everywhere
will chant,
thanking dearest leader
for their happy childhood.****

People will no longer worship
unsanctioned gods,
and special honor will be given
to HIS religion - Islam.

Neither Christianity nor Judaism
will be popular any longer.
And CIA, the nest of villainy,
we'll simply bring to justice.

And then, as bells toll victory,
we'll start crushing our enemies,
who secretly hide inside the Pentagon
and on TV, the Fox News channel.

The deep scars of political differences
will pass as a bad dream, will melt like snow,
and all Republicans will become,
socialists forever.

We'll all be happy, passionately
loving ourselves and our neighbors.
But if someone refuses to be happy,
it'll be his own fault.

The sky grows dark, the stars start shining,
the frost has paralyzed the rivers,
and chills prevail:
is it really too late to stop this madness?

No matter how hard we tried to hide,
the beast of socialism threatens us again.
It is so frighteningly familiar!
Escape again? This time, where?

and anthem of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union
** A line from a popular Soviet song
*** An allusion to the portrayal of Lenin in the Soviet agitprop
**** An allusion to "Thank you, Comrade Stalin, for our happy childhood" chant.

Thank you, People's Cube, for linking to my blog! A bit of clarification and a side note.
The translation of the poem for my blog was a team effort: started by my friend Diana, finished by me, and, most significantly, finishing touches were applied by the author himself.
Now, a side note, although related to the topic. If anyone thinks that only former Soviet citizens recognize dangerous tendencies, think again. I have a friend, who is of German descent. In fact, he lived in Germany until he was 11. His parents are in their early 70s, now divorced and not living with each other. Yet, when asked about their reaction to many videos of children singing praises to Obama, they had the same reaction: "I remember this from when I was little". Did I mention that they were little in Germany? Need I say more?
We might be in for a rough ride. Hopefully enough people will realize what's happening by the time the next election comes.
Eric.

Image Commissar Theocritus,

I wrote "There's an old saying;"It's hard to keep a good man down". In the case of America, it will be impossible." It was my intro to the music video Падали, но поднимались.

I should have elaborated about the video and my comment. Падали, но поднимались
roughly translated means Down, but Risen. Down as in no hope of a comeback and Risen against all odds. This is one of mankinds favorite stories. The hero who prevails against insurmountable odds.

Of particular note is the passion, the intensity of the young performers. I've spoken many times about the lack passion, the utter emptiness of the current batch of pseudo-socialist liberals in America today. For them socialism is chic and communism is fashionable. It will be their undoing.

Themes like "Down, but risen" are common to all humans. In the case of America, it is the Spirit of Freedom. This is not an American thing, it is common to every man, woman and child on the planet. Granted that true freedom in any society is near impossible, the United States is the closest you can get in the modern world.

Here's the "Rocky" version of the video:

Thank you, Rasputin, if I get your name right. I have come to like Russian popular music--a combination of trance and disco. I spent many hours in the early 80s in bars of a specialized nature which led me to love disco, and this is altogether better than modern American popular music which seems to be dancing on drunken feet.

Yes, the US is the closest that you can get in the modern world, which is why she is hated so much. To some people, those who viscerally hate freedom, nothing is as much of a rebuke as America. The very idea of personal freedom terrifies them because it's an insurmountable challenge.

Loved your video Pavel. The Lyric "Give me a reason to cross this new divide" is very appropriate. It begs to Theocritus' question;"What if good men do nothing?"

Theocritus, you've got the name right. I don't broadcast it as the damn media would have a frenzy with me if they knew I was still around. Palin's having a walk in the park compared to what they did to me then and would do now.

As for Saint Nanski, you know she loves you:

Our success will be if good men and women are more concerned with their children and their jobs and their lives and tend to them, instead of taking the time to protest. Let us rejoice in the inertia of good people. When Solon was charged with giving new laws in post-Periclean Greece, he gave on which was not understood for a very long time.

He said that if there is a faction in the state, you had to choose, one way or the other, or you'd lose your right to vote. He knew he couldn't dictate what choice to make but he also knew that revolutions were made by small numbers of people.

In my life I've noticed that I've let people dump things on me and shrugged, "Well, it's irritating but I can handle it." This comes usually from either people who are not important and one feels beneficent towards (pro bono work) or family friends a generation older. I was always the kid who could do things and was smug enough to relish doing them. So I didn't notice how all of these things were accreting on me, until I broke in 2005 and broke spectacularly.

When you feel that someone is a bastard, hit him as hard as you possibly can, and right away. Hit him again. Kick him when he's down. Showing mercy to a bastard is projection and nothing more, and it will not be returned.

Rasputin, since you cannot be killed, despite many efforts, do you think that you could give some pointers to Our Many Titted Empress? She's looking rather bad these days, and who wouldn't? She's Secretary of State to a President who despises his country and doesn't have the backbone to stand before a foreign leader. That's the worst boss that a SoS could possibly have.

Hilldog, my heart bleeds for you.

Has anyone Heard from Egypt in a Mummies Age? Where is Pharaoh? Has NOT the LORD asked this of us many times?

How week is Pharaoh that my cousin's lovely wife, (Egyptian, Not that their is anything wrong with that), would ask me.
That she would ask me, a simple french boy who's ancestry in Canada dates back many years. That she would ask me, one who is so white that surely my dad's dad's mother was from Belgium.
Why would she ask me, the simple son of a mother who divorced hid dad if she should confess to me , merely because i am wanting to follow Jesus and had a beard at the time....... funny enough , my hair was long enough at that Belle Époque, that I had taken a cam pic of me looking like "Cousin IT" , so I guess as with everything under the sun, I am related to cousin it. I'm reminded of the poem by Yeats
The best lack all conviction, while the worst
Are full of passionate intensity.

Though surely some revelation has been at hand for many generations - surely some second coming of a beast with rough thighs (perhaps Hillary) has been slouching toward Bethlehem to be born during every era. Does the existence of potential genocide on a massive scale add anything to the equation? I think not. It's been the end of the world as we know it for years now.

What is striking to me is that indeed "socialism is chic and communism is fashionable"... why? B/c when "the best" (the richest, most privileged, most well-fed individuals in the entire history of the human race) lack all conviction what are they going to turn to in order to seem brilliant and DEEP?

Communism, with all its iconography, looks cool and looks to offer through its passionate intensity some vague semblance of real conviction, real ideas, real backbone. But it's a hollow man; a man with a head full of straw (to use an Eliot reference) - it offers no real answers to the problems of being alive, only potemkin villages of iconic bedazzlement, self-indulgence, and the illusion of progress (roiled up into vast oceans of meaningless emotional ecstasy - like some sort of old South religious revival, or those massively gaudy military exercises beloved by Stalin, Mao, Kim the Korean, and other piss pot potentates).

My only worry is that not enough of us "watch the show" (Galaxy Quest); they look cute now, but they're going to get mean and nasty and start eating each other when theirhollowness is at last revealed.
