The promise of Democratic Socialism

DSA CONSTITUTION AND BYLAWS

(as amended by the 2001 National Convention)

CONSTITUTION

Article I. Name

The name of this organization shall be the Democratic Socialists of America, a not-for-profit corporation.

Article II. Purpose

We are socialists because we reject an economic order based on private profit, alienated labor, gross inequalities of wealth and power, discrimination based on race and sex, and brutality and violence in defense of the status quo. We are socialists because we share a vision of a humane social order based on popular control of resources and production, economic planning, equitable distribution, feminism, racial equality and non-oppressive relationships. We are socialists because we are developing a concrete strategy for achieving that vision, for building a majority movement that will make democratic socialism a reality in America. We believe that such a strategy must acknowledge the class structure of American society and that this class structure means that there is a basic conflict of interest between those sectors with enormous economic power and the vast majority of the population.

DSA Constitution

When all resources and production are owned as a commons by everyone equally and are all democratically planned and controlled through the voting process we will have peace and harmony as there will be no alienated labor, gross inequalities of wealth and power, discrimination, or brutality and violence in defense of the status quo. Everyone will be on the same page. You can believe that no one, absolutely no one, will put together powerful blocks of self-interested persons scrambling for power through the democratic process. After all, the prize would only be everything. You can bet this system of government won't break down in a eat-or-be-eaten struggle over political power of the property-less jungle.

But, if it does break down there will be no one to blame but ourselves. It's Democratic Socialism. Democratic Socialism means there's no one to blame for the failure of democratic socialism but you, the voters.

This is truly a new innovation in socialism.

I prefer National Socialism myself. All of the patriotism and none of the guilt! It truly makes you proud to be Socialist instead of "proud"!

I'd make the [ON] longer, but the jokes would be cruel, tasteless, obscene, and foul. I hope that the jokes herein aren't already the aforementioned. If they are I'd be more than happy and willing to change or remove them.

Anyway, look at the "young dem socialists" site: https://www.ydsusa.org/ . A certain Lenin quote comes to my mind, something about giving him the kids for a few years like Military school and then they're eternal Bolsheviks. I'm paraphrasing but that's what he meant.* But if you have even a milligram of skepticism and common sense in you the propaganda on the site is incredibly overt, while trying to be seductive. I suppose that if you're a useful idiot then the site is incredibly seductive.

* Facetious - meant to be humorous or funny : not serious

Image Yeah, Lev,

Way back in the mid-2000's I reconnected with a person I used to work for. She asked me if "sucking, licking, etc. is reason to impeach Bill, who she thought was "terrific." I said, "No, he was impeached for lying under oath, not sucking and effing. She threw this off, as well as me, saying, "I wish you well." She didn't wish me well, she just wanted to get rid of me.

Last night, I watched a wonderful movie, Up the Yangtze. It chronicles the ordeal a family had to endure in order to comply with the imminent flooding of their lifelong home to make way for the Three Gorges Dam.

I was touched by their character. Another video in this, secretly taken, reveals the heartbreaking rant of another business owner lamenting the corruption that absorbs the money that never seems to reach him. He realizes he will lose everything he has spent a lifetime building. It's killer in it's truth.

Do watch it, you will be glad you did. You will realize that humans all over the earth are quite similar in their wishes.

We all just want to be happy, do our thing, and be left alone.

Most of us are pretty good people.

p.s. You can watch it free on Amazon Prime.

Edit: Corrected the 3rd paragraph! It's the money, not the corruption that never reaches him!

I've never even heard of the film, I'll have to watch it, but I've had this view for a long time. I think that most people in most, if not, all countries are pretty well the same fundamentally, it's just that they're being taken along for a ride by lying politicians and corrupt governments. They might have different "surface desires" as I call them, one might want the newest Iphone whereas another might want an old rotary phone, one might want a brand-new Tesla car and another might want an old Bel-Air, but when the cards are down on the table I think that everybody just wants safety, freedom, peace, and liberty for them and their family. And I bring this into my political views constantly, if I see that a law was passed in Sweden or Russia or Ohio or wherever that I don't agree with, I don't think "Damn Ohioans", I think "Damn politicians". The self-coronated kings of the world have no regard for the serfs that I regret to say we have become, and I choose to hate the tyrannical, despotic kings instead of the hopeful, desperate serfs.

I really prefer the idea that no-one is to blame! I don't want to be responsible for anything. Don't blame me if the whole thing goes belly up. Just make sure that someone keeps paying my tab and I'll be happy.

Yes. Right after we get rid of all the people whom we deem as economically unviable.......

As a resident of one of the aforementioned shitholes, I feeel simultaneously attacked, defended, and supported. The new governor in my state is a complete ass, You could call him Obama jr. I think (he's done so much stupid shit it's hard to remember it all) that he tried to put a tax on gasoline when we already have higher gas prices than most places. I go out of state and I'm amazed at the prices. I think it got shot down, though, but I'm not so sure. And then he's letting in all these muslim "refugees" (more like illegals) and they're gonna fuck the state over with welfare and demands. Thank goodness I live in an area where they'd never dare to come; they'd probably be lynched, and for good reason. But you gotta keep going, neither break nor bend as the old saying goes.

Comrade Stierlitz, you need to temper your language. You do the cause no good when you use caustic language.

I wasn't intent on causing good, I was letting off steam. Were I writing a letter or petition then I wouldn't have used profanity at all. But seeing as you may/may not have moderator/admin/whatever it's call it on this forum software status then it seems you want to see less of it from me, and to this I'll happily comply in the future.

And looking at the post in question, it wasn't a very judicious use of profanity. I honestly expect better from myself. It won't happen again unless I get sloppy again, which I probably will.

Comrade, It's about respect for Red Square's property, which this website is. You're not on Facebook or Twitter. Everything you post here reflects on him. Show the man some respect. That's all.
