Germany Bans the Number 44

“It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of Science™, it was the age of common sense, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of climate denial, it was the span of man-women, it was the span of woman-men, it was an interval of tractor barns, it was an interval of waffle houses, it was a period of strength in numbers, it was a period of fascism in numbers....”
—Che Dikkens, A Tale of Two Opposing Material Dialectics

Now that math is recognized as racist, individual numbers can and will be suppressed, banned, or rounded up (no pun intended) and nullified.

When I first read about this, I imaged something severe or shocking:

But no, it was perfectly predictable Wokism telling us of monsters under our beds, and one really must stretch the imagination to see what they see:

So, to humor their Nazi Angst, here are some suggestions for the banishment of other double-digit numbers:

11 — Ban 11: someone might mistake it for the fascist slave-holding Roman colonizers’ numeral for 2 and have their feelings hurt when corrected.

22 — Ban 22: it looks like two back-alley abortion tools of the kind used to resist the patriarchy's effort to force “A Handmaid’s Tale” on progressive womyn.

33 — Keep 33 because it reminds us of Our Lady of Myriad Mammaries, the MTE.

44 — Banned successfully by woke sensitivity nazis because 44 looks kinda nazi-ish. So does NATO Headquarters in Brussels:

55 — Ban 55: can’t you see it’s a pair of meathooks like the ones Nazis used to hang people on?

66 — Keep 66 (but add one more 6 as a homage to the originator of all we hold dear).

77 — Ban 77: it’s obviously a pair of arrows pointing to the despicable right as well as a thinly disguised Nazi SS symbol. Also, it may be offensive to some members of the Indian Community (Slurpee Indians, not Casino Indians).

88 — Keep 88 because it, too, reminds us of Our Lady of Baskets of Boobs, the MTE.

88MTE 2.jpg

99 — Ban 99 because it sounds like “Nein! Nein!” in German, which is something that Hitler probably said. It also looks like a “close quotation” mark, which end of all Hitler quotes, and also Nazis used marks for money.

00 — Keep 00: no explanation needed.

On a side note, always thought that 99 Luftballons becoming a popular song was a little weird. A nice catchy euro-pop tune -- about nuclear Armageddon?!?

I lived in Berlin when the song came out. Nina Hagen was a local pop singer who thought she was "edgy." She appealed to the local youth at a time when tensions were high between the USSA and the USSR and the movie, "The Day After," was as much a box-office draw in Berlin as "Star Wars: Return of the Jedi."

German college students then were way ahead of their time. They were ridiculous snowflakes steeped in socialism and the fledgling, Soviet-engineered "Green Movement."

The city was full of young men from elsewhere who came to Berlin and enrolled in college to beat mandatory conscription, then dropped out to pursue a life of  squatting, drug addiction and political protests long before it became a thing in Portland and Seattle.

They ate up Nina's song because it was about the fragility of peace in the face of mutually assured destruction. They thought it made Americans look ridiculous. They thought if the West disarmed, peace would blossom and rainbows and unicorns would make all the land sparkle with fairy dust love.

German radio played "Neun und Neunzig Luftballoons" (99 Flying [helium] Balloons) but the English version was "Ninety Nine Red Balloons," maybe to imply that Americans were trigger happy if they saw red. Either way, it sounded like carousel music and it's so unremarkable that this is probably the very last commentary anyone will ever write about it.

We may now return to the topic.

Is 69 still OK?

(Asking for a komrade)
According to this cultural artifact, drawn by Robert Crumb, 69 has been okay since 1968.

Still, dinner and a movie may be a prerequisite.

I recall when White House staff banned the letter "W" and removed the offensive key from all White House computer keyboards before Bush the Younger was up the stairs on his last flight from DC to Texas.

Good times. Indeed, good times...

Is it possible to ban The Nation Debt numbers?

Also, when Adidas says they don’t want to get into any culture war conflicts, is that a credible statement?

Yes—if it ever gets down to double digits that fit on a sports shirt.

When Adidas says it doesn’t want to get into any culture war conflicts, is that a credible statement?
No—it's crass hypocrisy since Adidas did exactly that.

That’s what the jackalope thought was going on at Adidas.

And since "sweet 16" has already de facto turned bitter and salty, we may as well acknowledge this fact and rewrite the lyrics to reflect our new reality.
