Civil War reenactors assaulted over Confederate flag

Gettysburg, PA - Every year at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, thousands of reenactors gather at the hallowed battlefield to commemorate the turning point of the Civil War that lead the Union to victory over the Confederate States of America. Spectators from around the country come to see battles be authentically portrayed to honor the veterans of the Civil War.

But during the reenactment of the 152nd anniversary of the battle, members of a Confederate reenactment group were publicly ridiculed and physically assaulted by an organized flash mob of protesters while they were demonstrating historically accurate marching drills down Main Street of the town of Gettysburg, marking the first time in 152 years that the historical ground was a scene for wide-scale violence.

Actors in grey uniforms marched behind a color guard bearing the Confederate flag, parading down the street to the accompaniment of marching drums and flutes as they have previously done for decades without any issues. All of a sudden, the angered protestors, mixed in with spectators, started to scream while waving picket signs, demanding that the Confederate reenactors stop displaying a symbol of hate and oppression, and calling them 'bigots' and 'racists'.

Unsatisfied with verbal attacks, some of the protesters spat on the marching men in uniform. The reenactors, who performed authentic military marching on request by the National Park Service, continued towards their destination in a determined effort to faithfully portray American history.

The event turned violent when irate activists, seeing that their yelling and spitting did not achieve results, began physically to attack the actors by pushing and hitting them. The faux Confederate soldiers in turn defended themselves, which only provoked the crowd of about 280 protestors to retaliate even more severely. Police attempted to contain the riot, but without the appropriate riot gear the small-town police force failed to qualm the civil unrest.

Police had to stand by as protesters turned their anger from the reenactors to the town itself, destroying historical monuments and breaking windows of businesses and private homes. The memorial dedicated to the 20th Maine, who valiantly defended Little Round Top against Confederate forces and saved the Union Army during the second day of fighting, was destroyed by a group of about 50 hammer-wielding protesters who mistook it for a Confederate memorial.

Among the monuments dedicated to the men of the 20th Maine were 18 other statues and plaques that have been forever lost to blind anger and senseless destruction in a riot sparked by the presence of a historical flag during a historical demonstration.

The city of Gettysburg is now debating whether it would be prudent ever again to allow Confederate reenactors in Civil-War-era uniforms to perform historical demonstrations on national park grounds, since their presence is apparently causing the destruction of property and civil unrest among the increasingly vocal progressive community.

The reenactors couldn't fight back because, in staying true to history, they were Democrats and according to Rhett Butler, had nothing with which to fight except cotton and arrogance.

Seems the Party of Change hasn't really changed all that much since then.

There was significant change when they accepted gender diversity, modified the uniform, and mechanized their assault troops...

Not to question your brilliance, Commissarka, but aren't the thug mob irate America-deniers also democrats who are fighting with more equal cotton and arrogance? Maybe inspired by the spirit of ISIS when it comes to destroying historic monuments?

Typical leftist crap. Why should Confederate reenactors be punished by not being allowed to march as they have done for years, because some 50 racist protestors started a mini-riot?

The Confederate cause is hated by true leftist because they have discovered that the Rebels in the American civil war were the most true to the US constitution. The government forces were the beginning of socialist movement in the US now. The glorious revolution began with comrade Lincoln in the name of freeing slaves which he had planned to send back to Africa. Comrade Lincoln, in true soviet style, found a weakness and exploited it for more government control. The new soviets of America have a lot of things to thank comrade Lincoln for.
