Trump and Columbo: Have you ever seen them in the same room?

I watched a few seasons of Columbo for the first time and came to the following conclusion.

It seems to me that the people who accept or reject Trump are the same people who are charmed or not charmed by Columbo. Columbo and Trump are the same persona. The same voice, strong New York accent, mannerisms, body language, gestures, facial expressions, smirks, goofy faces. These are external factors. Besides, both of them smile at their enemies, call them friends, give compliments, act like simpletons, but in reality, they calculate everything in their heads and arrive at the only correct decision. Columbo started airing in the late 1960s when Trump was still a young man. It is quite possible that he was also charmed by this image and subconsciously began to imitate it. In his manner, there is a cultural code that Columbo fans understood and approved of, while everyone else viewed it with rejection and contempt.

For example, saying that Trump loves Putin and will do anything for him is the same as accusing Columbo of hugging a murderer and saying nice things to him, which means he is in league with the criminal and a traitor. Not to mention that he is considered rude and a dimwit with a limited vocabulary. But Colombo was no one’s fool, and neither is Trump.

People from this second category are usually big snobs.

Oh, the shared joy your most excellent points gathered from watching some Colombo episodes. Trump and Columbo. The jackalope happened to watch the entire Columbo series, one evening at a time. The HOLLYWOOD STARS who wanted to be a Columbo VILLIAN!! Scripts trying to match wits with Columbo. It's no different from the Media Narrative telling us Trump doesn't know what he's supposed to be doing as President, until they get trapped by Columbo, and sent to prison.

Thank you Red Square for noting the similarity of character. Only evil people are afraid of Columbo, only evil people are afraid of Trump. Imagine Hillary's script as Columbo murderer. Let's get the Big Stars cast as villians, Who wants to see an episode where Hillary gets outwitted by Trump?

Young Americomrades, Columbo is pure re-education, enjoyment.

Agreed. It one of the reasons I dropped my NYC accent in my teens.

Not to stray from topic but if you like Falk as Columbo, you might be interested in this German film:

Falk pretty much plays himself—the Columbo actor—but it's only near the end that we learn who he really is.

I grew up watching Columbo, it aired on NBC, starting in 1968 as "The NBC Mystery Movie." The were two companion murder mysteries that aired on the same nights over the course of a month, "McCloud" starring Dennis Weaver, and "McMillen and Wife" with Rock Hudson and Susan Saint James. But Columbo wound up a favorite of viewers, in part because the cast was always made up of extremely talented actors, such as Martin Landau:

And it didn't take long for the Vast Right-Wing Meme Factory to glom on:

And when the murderer would try to get Columbo thrown off the case it just made Columbo stronger.

Comrades!

The movie 'The IN-Laws' with Peter Falk and Alan Arkin is very funny. All I remember from it is the scene where they try to avoid getting shot and someone yells 'serpentine... serpentine'. Top notch entertainment.

Dasvidaniya Comrades!

Perhaps another way to summarize your conclusions is that—similar to Columbo—Trump plays his cards close to his vest, seldom tips his hand unless it's advantageous, doesn't fold when he's certain he has a chance, and lays his cards on the table when he has a winning hand.

Comrade Director, I'm reminded of the days of my youth when I was told what it means to be a man. Now I've reached that age and I have to consider my TV watching as being more educational than entertainment. I grew up watching Skippy. She was very quiet but also very perceptive. She also had some very strange mannerism, even for a kangaroo. You always have to watch the quiet ones.

Like Trump, Skippy hopped all over the shop and her extroverted displays of energy and enthusiasm masked a deeply thoughtful demeanor. She knew who the bad guys were and knew how to trap them into unmasking themselves.

I know Trump has already chosen his VP but Skippy would have been a great choice, aside from the natural born citizenship issue, but there are ways around that. It was figured out for his "O"liness.
