"Privateer" Surges to Top of Help Wanted Listings

The Interwebs, US --  Senator Mike Lee (R-UT) made headlines recently when discussing using constitutionally designated Letters of Marque to combat Mexican drug cartels.  After the announcement, "Entry Level Privateer / Cabin Boy" and "Associate Privateer" surged to the top of job listings at all major job search engines.

Letters of Marque authorize piracy on behalf of countries in war and were used extensively in the Napoleonic Age.

Nearly all of the listings require signing a Non-Disclosure Agreement and have a "no parrot" clause.

Beware of receiving the Red Square.

Disclosures are highly frowned upon by all crew members.

Such are the stories the jackalope has heard from reliable sources.

Next we'll name a ship after the State of Alabama and start "Commerce Raiding"......it's more fun than just slapping on tariffs. "Nice goods ya got there......be a shame if somethin' were to happen to 'em....."

I'm OK with the "No Parrot" Clause, but I draw the line at having to listen to Margaritaville on Sirius XM any more than 30 minutes a day.

All kidding aside, I hear we issued at least one Letter of Marque during World War II for coastal defense.

As Ronaldus Magnus used to say (paraphrasing): "Best way to solve a problem is to figure out how someone in private industry can make money doing it".

Might be hard to regulate, though (wink, wink).

What if the Bond franchise updated License To Kill, to become Letters of Marque?

Wouldn't matter much. Still the worst James Bond (looks like an Albanian used car dealer).

Dalton's hair plugs were deteriorating so fast, producers had to hire Brosnan to replace him.

I much prefer the original James Bond (he was classy).

It’s the script that’s intriguing—-Robert Davi as Drug Lord, Franz Sanchez, side henchman Benicio del Toro, Dario, plus meditation guru grifting off the gullible as televangelist Joe Butcher (Wayne Newton), are exactly what “Letters of Marque” would be privateered to put out of business. As it stands today, Franz Sanchez has purchased the current Texas House for his nefarious gambling casino and human trafficking plans.

More shaken, less stirred is what “Letters of Marque” is about.

Most Equally Esteemed Comrades,

Is there still time to sign up with Ragnar Danneskjold's crew?  Asking for a friend...

I thought my friend, Atlas, might have your answer but Atlas shrugged.

Most Equally Esteemed Comrade Colonel,

A rabid Bolshevik member of the faculty “caught” me reading Atlas Shrugged in High School.  I think she was in charge of Social Studies Indoctrination.  Anyway, she delivered me to the Vice Principal for discipline.  The upshot was that I received a 3 day suspension for reading subversive literature.  That was fine with me.  It gave me more time to read the offending book.  My folks were not amused, being quasi-Bolsheviks themselves.  I wonder if it ended up on my Permanent Record?

Throw me in the briar patch in the Current Truth™,

Ha! All that talk about "your permanent record" turned out to be pure bullshit. Same with "You must have a high school (or college) diploma." Or "Nobody will hire you if you get a dishonorable discharge."

Most Equally Esteemed Comrade Colonel,

I suspected the Permanent Record thing was a bluff from the start.  Where would all these Permanent Records be stored and who was maintaining them?  And why did people keep “important papers” around if there were already copies in a Permanent Record Warehouse somewhere?

The Subversive Literature incident came up during my first security clearance interview.  The investigator had a good laugh.  Apparently he wrote it down because I was asked about it at every subsequent clearance interview.  Even the ones post military service.  I guess it did make it into my Permanent Record.

You've got to be ahead of the game. Before my clearance investigation even started I told everyone I know that my favorite superhero was Captain America (Steve Rogers, not the DEI hire) and that I loved to beat up commies.

Investigation went quickly. Got my clearances.

Probably didn't hurt that my certifiably insane half-sister—with two snarling German Sheperds— told the FBI investigator  "F**k your badge! I don't care who the f**k you say you are, you don't come around here asking about my brother! Get the f**k off my property or I'll set the f**king dogs on you!"

Or something like that.

Was your sister extremely right-wing or left wing? That scenario could fit either, depending on the circumstance. There's more than one kind of insane, if you know what I mean.

I remember having my Security Clearance investigated twice - they claimed I didn't owe enough money. My cars were paid for, and I didn't have a mortgage any more, and I had two degrees with no student loans.....they didn't believe me. I later found out they talked to the mean old bat that lived across from my mother. According to Mom, the old witch, told her, "Oh, (Mama Zeppelin), don't lie to me. He's not in the Army - he's really in jail, isn't he?"

Not sure if the investigators were amused or not. Got my clearance.

She had no political interests and hated authority figures.
