Can anyone guess the cause of his sudden illness?

Given his unabashed position on Russian aggression and his presence in Ukraine, here are three possibilities:

One should get all proper immunization shots before traveling, but unfortunately there is no "sudden illness" vaccine to protect against what pops up in Europe from time to time. Just ask Victor Yushchenko.

Three or four years ago I did a binge read of Agatha Christie murder mysteries in order to understand the Upstairs/Downstairs and Downtown Abbey fetishes and to get a grip on English twit-ery in general since Christie's novels covered the 1930's through the 1950's more or less, a period full of Soviet double agents and the Haw-Haw's in the Foreign Office who covered for them - and probably still do. I began to get what I call "contact poisoning" because her go to's were thallium and the gardener's rat poison (he never did it) when it was necessary to knock off an inconvenient relative. She did use other substances and was something of a Lucretia Borgia biochemist. Couldn't stand that silly faerie Poirot, although Christie gave him a brief romantic interlude with a Russian woman who had a title, of course, instead of a ballerina, which would have been more accurate. In any case, I was getting ill just reading about the chemicals and how they worked. Longed for a good old American bullet to the brain or bludgeoning of the victim.

It does not appear that the pro-Palestinians or the Chicoms (CCP) are into poisoning, but rather bioweapons should be suspected including medicines, and psychedelic substances that penetrate the skin like blue hair dye, tattoo ink, plus vegan/holistic concoctions, plus salmonella and e. coli in edibles and pet food and baby formulae, plus take-out pizza. We feel arsenic is something of a poor man's poison and wonder why English twits of the Haw-Haw Foreign Office class would embrace it, per Christie. Of course, arsenic poisoning wouldn't need much prior thought or planning

Conclusion: The playing field looks veddy English, but since the US is overrun with Mandarin speakers who are there to steal anything and everything because it's all they can do, and because nevertheless they depend heavily on Mandarin-to-English AI translators, you are korrekt, it is not a Russke umbrella: We are smarter than that!  There is a Boston/PBS-Harvard/CCP axis frequently overlooked, and don't forget PBS relies on British dramas. Well, take it from there. A bowl of spaghetti.
