IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT of an IMPENDING MIGRATION

User avatar
[img]/images/various_uploads/Cube_Migrates_Server.jpg[/img]

Starting tonight (Aug 14th), all posting and user registration on the People's Cube will be disabled for about a week, as our site will set on a journey to a new, shiny server. Our "migrant" status will in no way prevent you from reading, studying, copying, and thoroughly memorizing our pages.

We needed to move so we could make the Cube pages more secure (SSL), which today is a necessity rather than a luxury. This may also boost our search engine ranking, although our rank may be lowered for completely unrelated reasons. Our web address will henceforth begin with "https," and the scarlet letters that say "not secure" in your browsers will wither away.

Try as we may, we cannot migrate by illegally crossing GoDaddy's firewall, so our status will have to be documented. That means paying several hundred dollars now and making annual payments later. For this reason we urge our faithful readers and followers to donate what you can to this effort. Alternatively you can buy our books, the Red Cubes, or other merchandise. Anything will help us carry the people's load.

No, seriously. Once the database is backed up, anything you post on the Cube will be lost. And we don't know the exact time when it's going to happen.

User avatar
Comrades of the Peoples Cube, do not attempt to establish refugee status or seek asylum here in Texazistan. Migration rules are enforced by Trump's ICE brownshirts and the camps are overflowing now. Save yourselves, stay low, and wait for the "all clear" from the People's Coyote.

Forward! To Migration!

UPDATE:

There have been more problems than anticipated. I'm afraid that I'll have to also migrate the Cube to a new, more modern and smartphone-friendly software package, which will require a lot of work... But it needed to be done, sooner or later.

In the meantime, a few comments have disappeared from this thread. Fortunately, I kept the old page open on my computer and was able to copy at least some of the content. See below.

Image The migration is complete, and the SSL installed. You can resume posting now.

WELCOME TO THE NEW AND IMPROVED CUBE!

I spent all day and half the night fixing what the hosting team failed to fix, making sure the Cube rolls even smoother and faster than before.

Special thanks to Comrade Mi for his invaluable help with SQL, Apache, PHP, and other programming skills.

Image Oh good, the new server is pairing with my other devices.

I hope this new server is in a proper place and will be maintained korrectly. I've heard the best place to house and run a server is in a basement bathroom as long as all the information is sent to an unknown Chinese sounding company backup.

UPDATE:

Unfortunately, the problems with the migration are bigger and more numerous than we had anticipated (famous last words of a socialist).

We were able to fix the problem with the disappearing videos, attachments, and avatars.

Just now I finished fixing the login issue by reconfiguring the cookie. I tried this and for now the login seems to be stable. Time will tell.

Because of all this, I have begun building a new Cube from scratch, that will be more user--and-cell-phone-friendly. It's a scary amount of work, but that seems to be the only way out.

Above: Reconstructed "old" post of Dummkopf 8/20/2019, 5:48 am (here link, but it's dead).

1) Tried to edit the "old", but got: 'LAIKAGRAM: You cannot edit posts in this forum'.
2) Therefore, as test, tried the above "new" (and left the "old" as is - a 'delete' was denied ('it's not your post', it said)).

3) The "old" 6 pics were gone from the gallery (ok - surely uploaded after the final backup).

4) So, submitted the 6 pics to gallery anew, all in one step (and all they showed in the gallery).
5) Then: Put the 6 [IMG]-lines (BBcode) in RICH Editor.
6) RICH Editor, and also PREVIEW, showed only pic-1, and the other 5 as "not found".

7) Again loaded those 5 "not found" pics, but this time one by one (i.e. in 5 separate submits).
8) This time, RICH Editor, and also PREVIEW, showed all 6 pics.
9) So, added text + formatting, submitted - et voilà, there was no need to shoot any guilty kulaks.

10) micro: in RICH Editor, the functionalities 'Text color' and 'Background' are mixed up:
you mark some text, press 'Text color' (e.g. red), and it will.. highlight the text (here, red);
conversely, mark text, press 'Background' (say, red), it will.. color the marked (red - what else?).

As they say, I can feel your pain, Komrade Direktor...
(unfortunately, can't be of help - whatever I know of programming, it's on the tech/realtime side of software engineering, not the web/design side).

While at that, ALL HAIL COMRADE MI! :

Komradette Clara, your *TEST*TEST*TEST* (eh, channelling Ronaldus Magnus, too?) has an overwhelming radiance... and then that visual aura, expanding beyond our Planet, into Kosmos....

Dearest Oleg,

This image reminds me so much of the days when everyone suggested that the pencil sharpener should be "centrally located", in the interest of "fairness". I mean, no one should have to walk further than another to get what they need. Especially when it comes to pencil sharpeners.

That's when I realized that they want EVERYTHING "centrally located." I realized then that my cartoon would take up too much verticle space and thus be eliminated as viable. I saw the verticle massing as quite dangerous and maybe lethal. They paid no attention.

It didn't stop them, however, they still want us crunched up into verticle tribes, helpless because we can't move, and, subject to their control.

How could I have been so easily misled?

[OFF]

I never knew absout this especially petty part of American educational history. Then again, I wasn't around to see this primo piece of progressive psychology.

This being said, even though I'm a young lad, I was also lucky enough to school at a public school that was built in the early 60's, a Catholic school built around the same time, and another Catholic school built around the turn of the century. The sharpener was NAILED to the WALL, either at the rear or head of the classroom, and you had to crank it yourself. Sometimes it was nailed to the blackboard itself. And yes, it WAS a blackboard, a quite big one too, that I would sometimes get conscripted to wash with a rag and bucket. And, by god, I could get a razor-sharp point on that pencil with those hand-cranked machines. I don't like electrics to this day.

EDIT:

Oh yeah! I forgot about how I was always the one who had to empty the pencil sharpener, because nobody else would and I'd be standing there wondering why the machine was harder to crank and not sharpening as well. Ah, memories...

Did something change in sending private messages? I'm trying to respond to one, it moves to outbox, but hasn't become a "sent" message... I even tried to send my response as a separate message, and it did the same thing. The poor comrade will receive two separate messages if they went through.. I have 35 messages in the inbox, so I'm not maxed out...
