President Obama prepares to savor his meal order before campaigning
President Barack Obama made a surprise stop at a local Korean restaurant on Thursday afternoon shortly after touching down at San Francisco International Airport to enjoy one of his favorite meals and to also campaign for votes.

Obama, with his sleeves rolled-up, stopped by Kimchee's Korean restaurant after calling ahead and placing a special order, according to the White House. The unscheduled stop, which surprised diners as well as restaurant owner Hyun Kim, was made during Obama's fundraising events in San Francisco for his 2012 re-election campaign.

"He (Obama) came in at around 1 pm, when a lot of other customers were dining," Kim told The People's Daily in a telephone interview, adding that he had no previous knowledge about Obama's visit until he received the call. "He wanted something that we really don't advertise on the menu", Mr. Kim said. "I'm glad that he called ahead though, as I had to send out one of my staff to one of the local backyard neighborhood supply sources to procure the special main ingredient required for his meal".

According to a tweet sent out by the White House Press Pool, the president's motorcade pulled up to the restaurant around 1:22 pm, where he jumped out of the car and eagerly ran into the eatery ready to wolf down his meal.

Kimchee's Restaurant is locally well-known and is rated 3.5 out of 5 on Yelp.com, a website for people to share their experiences at local businesses. Hu Pak, the waiter who served Obama, said he was surprised when the president walked in the restaurant with an entourage and then went alone to dine on the meal he had ordered."He just showed up from nowhere, without any notifications beforehand and then was escorted to our private dining area away from all the prying eyes," he said. Mr. Pak said the meal cost more than $100 as the restaurant had to actually chase down the main ingredient before cooking it which added to the cost.

When pressed as to what Obama actually had for his meal Mr. Kim said, "Your barking up the wrong tree for that information, as the president had told me that this traditional Korean meal brought back real fond memories for him and I'm not going to spoil his dining experience here at Kimchee's by going public on his main meal entree selection."

After the meal the president then spent about 25 minutes working the room, greeting surprised diners and taking pictures, repeatedly saying "How are you? Good to see you! They sure serve some dog-gone good food here!" while they shrieked "Obama! Obama!" according to the White House. He also shook some more hands before leaving Kimchee's while sporting a large doggie bag under his arm, Mr. Kim said.
