The Beatles tell us what Climate Change is all about!

User avatar
Wow! I just found this, something I had never heard before.

The Beatles tell us what Climate Change is all about. This, from 1966. It's good. It's called “Rain.” When I lived in Los Angeles I saw Angelinos react to rain. They were appalled. They said things like, “OMG, you're not going to go out into that?" Rain sprinkles absolutely terrified them. Pathetic. They were so afraid the rain might muss up their hair, or something. Seriously.

This is really a good tune. Ringo is excellent on drums, as are all of them in their own way.

"Rain"

If the rain comes they run and hide their heads
They might as well be dead
If the rain comes, if the rain comes

When the sun shines they slip into the shade
(When the sun shines down)
And drink their lemonade
(When the sun shines down)
When the sun shines, when the sun shines

Rain, I don't mind
Shine, the weather's fine

I can show you that when it starts to rain
(When the rain comes down)
Everything's the same
(When the rain comes down)
I can show you, I can show you

Rain, I don't mind
Shine, the weather's fine

Can you hear me, that when it rains and shines
(When it rains and shines)
It's just a state of mind?
(When it rains and shines)
Can you hear me, can you hear me?

One of my very, very favorites. Ahead of its time! Well, if it presaged the apocalypse, John didn't seem to care.

Just for fun, here's a photo of Ringo and George before they were the Beatles:

Here, in a People's Cube exclusive, is a photo taken by a friend of mine, Jack Shaffer, during the El Nino that hit Los Angeles in 1983. March 1st, to be exact. Because of the torrential rain we were experiencing, Jack decided to head for the Hollywood Hills and take this photo before going to work and just moments before a tornado hit the sports arena downtown. He had no idea that would happen.

Is this an amazing photo or what? When I Googled tornados in LA on March 1st, I got nuthin. The photo alone portends what is to come. The sky is just bursting with energy.

While this torrential rain was going on I collected it in containers to feed my plants. I absolutely loved hearing and watching the rain clean this dirty city and rid it of those nasty, dead palm leaves from palm trees that don't belong there anyway. Loved it, loved it, loved it! Historical!

Many years later I met some colleagues who lost their property during this El Nino and the tornado that ensued. They were flabbergasted to see this photo and recognized it's meaning as to location of their business. I was so happy to provide it for them. How often does that kind of thing happen?

Comrade Craptek,

It took me a few minutes to see what you did there. I burst out laughing! It was then that I realized that the last line of the song "Rain" is backwards. Duh! Thanks, Craptek. ; • )

Looks like a Hurricane and a Quarryman to me. Although I believe when that picture was taken, the Beatles did exist but included only George (who I think was 3 years old, then), John, Paul, Pete Best and Stu Sutcliffe.

You could be right, Kell. I found this on a site the other day (which I can't find in my History, grrr!) It was a site promoting Ringo's new book of photographs that had somehow lain dormant for all these years, private photos the guys took of each other. So, I was trying to remember what was actually posted as a description of this photo. They look so innocent! Fortunately, I dragged this photo to my desktop which I was then able to share.

Here it is:

Good to see you again, too, Sista Putout. What a sweet thing to post. ; • )
I appreciate the effort you made to put this together.

Doh! I forgot to mention that this tune is a metaphor/parody of Climate Change/Progressive thought, even though you probably know this already. Just want to tie up those pesky loose ends!
Loose ends exist everywhere! Good grief. I just want to do my part in fixing it.
