Hezbollah leader calls for ‘united front against imperialism'

It is rare that readers inside the imperialist countries, especially in the U.S., get the opportunity to read and hear the voices of people's resistance due to the blatant censorship of the big business media. Therefore, Workers World is reprinting excerpts from an Aug. 14 interview with Hezbollah leader Sayyed Hasan Nasrallah that appeared in its entirety on the Turkish Party of Labor website, https://www.emep.org. Roza Cigdem Erdogan and Mutlu Sahin, reporters with the Turkish daily, Evrensel, conducted the interview in Beirut.

Turkish Daily: Israel had claimed its aim was to destroy Hezbollah in the first days of the occupation of Lebanon. How ever, it came across a resistance it did not expect and now it has been falling short of this aim. Through violent clashes, the occupying army continues to suffer heavy loses. But this is not covered sufficiently by the media.

Wow! You don't read things like this in the big business media like the New York Times. How come? It would give the American working classes strength and purpose! Down with big business censorship of our nation's newspapers! I want to read Hezbolla talking like this in our papers. Sounds like another good reason to nationalize the press to me.

Are you sure they meant to "destroy it?" Maybe it was opposite day when they made that proclamation....

Nasrallah has denied that he ever gave an interview.

Out of respect for the good works and honesty of Hezbollah the Worker's World has pulled the interview from their website.

The Interview That Wasn't

Hezbollah denounces Evrensel interview of Nasrallah as a fake

By Alexander Cockburn

Hussain Rahhal, Hezbollah's press liaison, has issued a written statement:

"Our secretary general Nasrallah has not given any interviews to any Turkish or other non-Lebanese journalist during the month of August. In the face of this imaginary interview that is untruthful, and hence does damage to journalism, credibility and objectivity, Hezbollah reserves its right to take legal action against those who have published it."

The interview created a big stir among the Left of the Western world as Nasrallah's views on imperialism and his admiration for the heros of the Left seemed to confirm that Hezbollah and the Western Left have much in common. Such a confirmation of worldview made it easy to publish without any fact checking.

This by Alexander Cockburn at imcWinnipeg:

Alexander Cockburn wrote:In an item last weekend I noted charges that the interview was fraudulent, also interesting and important observations about radical components in the Shi'a tradition, which might buttress arguments for the interview's genuineness. I hope this particular fakery won't discredit those insights, which are important for the left.

The interview, as Cockburn writes, is "fakery" but - the insights are true! It's a small Marxist-Leninist world after all!

Perhaps Dan Rather can be persuaded to interview Nasrallah.

Fake but accurate:

Hezbollah sinks Australian warship

https://www.moqavemat.com - an Iran-based website run by the Hezbollah terrorist group - is running this picture (above) of what it claims is the Israeli ship it hit with a missile last month.

Now look at the Royal Australian Navy's picture below - as published by Defence Industry Daily - of its sinking of the decommissioned Australian destroyer-escort HMAS Torrens off the coast of Western Australia in 1998 . We were told at the time the Torrens was deliberately sunk by a torpedo fired by one of our own submarines, the HMAS Farncomb.

Should we now think that we were in fact attacked by Hezbollah - or is this just the latest proof that Hezbollah will lie and lie again for propaganda gain?

I don't get it. I thought the Australians were on our side.
