Google suspends ads and search on the Cube. Developing...

User avatar
Attention all posters and visitors: starting Nov. 9, all Google ads and Google search have been suspended on the People's Cube. Until now I didn't have the time to deal with this issue, but today I found both the time and the inspiration. See below.

Nov 9, 2010
Google AdSense ad serving has been disabled to thepeoplescube.com

Hello,

While reviewing your account, we noticed that you are currently displaying Google ads in a manner that is not compliant with our policies. For instance, we found violations of AdSense policies on pages such as https://thepeoplescube.com/peoples-comp ... t1834.html. Please note that this URL is an example and that the same violations may exist on other pages of your website. As stated in our program policies, AdSense publishers are not permitted to place Google ads on pages with pornographic content. This includes photos or videos which contain full nudity or sexual activities. As a result, we have disabled ad serving to the site. Your AdSense account remains active. However, we strongly suggest that you take the time to review our program policies (https://www.google.com/support/adsense/ ... spe-2pp-en ) to ensure that all of your remaining pages are in compliance. Please note that we may disable your account if further violations are found in the future.

Sincerely,
The Google AdSense Team

Our answer:

Nov. 17, 2010

I believe there has been an error because we do not have pages with pornographic content. We are doing the best we can to keep the site clean, which is why we censor vulgar and obscene language and images.

We specialize in political humor and satire. While it is impossible to satirize cultural developments without showing examples or objects of our satire, rest assured that it is also our policy to avoid posting "photos or videos which contain full nudity or sexual activities." And in the rare cases when some partial nudity may be present, the purpose is never eroticism, but rather social commentary with a satirical angle.

By any objective standard, the picture in the referenced link does not fall under your definition of "photos or videos which contain full nudity or sexual activities." It is a funny picture of a lunatic in a straight jacket inside a room padded with rubber breasts. It is not more erotic or arousing than rubber boots or galoshes, unless the "beholder" is a pervert, in which case he or she may also be aroused by galoshes and we would have to ban those as well.

But seriously, rubber breasts on a wall are no more "pornographic" than the metal breasts on the "Spirit of Justice" statue at the US Department of Justice. At one time US Attorney General John Ashcroft had famously covered that statue in drapes, for which he had been rightfully ridiculed in the world press. See the story and the "pornographic" news footage here: https://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/1788845.stm

Therefore, please lift the suspension on our AdSense account, which in addition has also disabled the site's search function.

Sincerely,
ThePeoplesCube.com

In the spirit of transparency and full exposure, here's that BBC article from 01/09/2002:

BBC wrote: Curtains for semi-nude justice statue

Ashcroft.jpg
No longer will the 'Spirit of Justice' bare her breast

No longer will US Attorney General John Ashcroft appear in public with a semi-nude statue towering above him. The US Justice Department has spent $8,000 on curtains to hide the statue from the cameras.

The female, art-deco "Spirit of Justice" statue, with one breast exposed, is located on the podium in the department's ornate Great Hall where news conferences are often held. One fully-exposed breast protrudes from her toga garment.

Her male counterpart, the "Majesty of Law", is sculpted with a cloth strategically placed around his waist.

Photographers have gone to great lengths in the past to capture the scantily-clad female statue in the background as the Justice Department's top brass addressed the world's press.

Mr Ashcroft has been photographed speaking in front of her several times since the 11 September attacks.

Hired drapes have previously hung in front of both statues for formal events, such as President George W Bush's visit to name the building after assassinated former attorney-general, Robert Kennedy.

Visual harmony

This was done for "aesthetic" reasons, according to Justice Department spokesman Shane Hix, who said the drapes provided a pleasant background for television cameras.

But on Monday the department announced that it had taken a "cost effective" decision to buy the curtains, which cost around $2,000 to hire.

ABC News reported that the decision was taken at the request of the conservative Mr Ashcroft himself. But Justice Department spokeswoman Barbara Comstock said Mr Ashcroft knew nothing of the investment. "He has more important things to worry about than what appears in the pictures," she said.

The drapes are reported to have been hanging since Monday, drawing to a close the sport of photographers who infamously sprawled on the floor to snap the former Attorney General Edwin Meese holding aloft his report on pornography in front of the female statue.

User avatar
Comrade, you must have not made the right kind of contribution to The One. Google is in tight with Dear Leader. What's erotic about a rubber breast or a hundred of them? On the other hand those metal breasts on the statue are Stimulating.

User avatar
Something is amiss with Google lately. Talk of an unholy alliance with the Obama administration, intrusive "street view" offerings and wi-fi snooping. I used to use the Google image archives for my photoshopping needs but recently their search results only seem to provide images that are barely larger than their thumbnails. I've since switched to Yahoo images.

As for Google's rubber boobie complaint, it sounds much like NPR's problem with Juan Williams. A convenient excuse, albeit a tad implausible.

User avatar
Now I am new here (I appreciate your prior salutation Comrade Whoopie), but perhaps I may help with the logic behind Google's complaint.

While it is possible that you may not have made the "proper" contribution to Google, perhaps they are not happen with the TYPE of breast you displayed.

I suspect they want a strong image that captures the spirit of this glorious Republik....

such as this one....

steelcup200.jpg

User avatar
Wow. A rubber room full of rubber tits. How erotic is that?

I would say that they had to look really hard to find something to pretend to be a problem.

Probably the truth is- Uncle Spooky Dude bought out Google.

Red Square,

I join your trip down memory lane in exposing Google's motivation as being transparently political in characterizing your "Boobs for Peace" satire as violative of Google's standards of "decency." Just consider the fact that DailyKos carries GoogleAds as does MoveOn.Org as does the Huffington Post. If my memory serves me correctly, all those sites have featured images that many (if not most) people would deem indecently offensive. (I don't have links at my fingertips at the moment.)

Back to the trip down memory lane (to January, 2002):

Image

(The video linked above is a very old Flash-format video from 2002)

Your images have been deemed NSFG, but I think we all know the images and reportage mocking Ashcroft "covering up" the bare breast of the Spirit of Justice statue was NOT deemed NSFG.

Isn't the answer about Google's real motivation obvious? More to come.

For yet another example of GoogleAds' patent hypocrisy in purporting to enforce its "standards," remember when GoogleAds -- which had permitted ads by MoveOn.Org, etc. trashing General Petraeus as "General Betrayus" and also trashing Susan Collins (the noted RINO) as a "right winger" because she (sometimes) supported Bush on Iraq-- banned an ad by Susan Collins attacking MoveOn.Org for its attack on her?

Who's influence was likely behind that decision? To paraphrase the new Mr. Rogers (Beck):"Can you say, 'Soros'?"

We do know that Google is a liberal/progressively held sight, one which fully support the Obama socialist agenda, so who can be surprised at anything they do. They rig their searches as they "see fit"... and yet they complained when the Chi-coms found angst with them.

They're clearly in the wrong and they clearly have a leftist bias.

My personal opinion: I don't see any need for nudity in any form. But most important, nudity & crudity don't advance the purpose of the Cube and that's the bottom line; humor & satire mocking the bitter insanity of the Left, doesn't require either one to be effective. It's degrading and demeaning and is what the Left does on a regular basis (Example: anything & everthing they say about Conservative women). The Cube is simply better than that.

User avatar
More on Google's "crusade" against its ads appearing on sites or pages on which images of breasts also appear:

To view the post and image on Huffington Post, go to: https://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/12/17/courtney-love-topless-she_n_396247.html. By scrolling that page, you can find the "GoogleAds" link. The patent hypocrisy (Googloprisy?) is enought to drive one to drink at a bar with a topless bartender:

User avatar
I'm along with the Fraulein on this one.

Really good comedy and satire doesn't need to be crude. In fact, its funnier if it isn't.

And with Obama & Co., they give us the best material to work with on a daily basis.

User avatar
But the Frau also noted that crudity is what the Left does. What the Cube does is mock the Left by adopting their meme in extremis.

In that regard, crudity is fair game. Even so, our level of crudity doesn't approach that of the Left in the way they've treated conservatives. Kook rightly notes that many Left leaning blogs (with GoogleAds) far surpass the Cube in this regard.

Truly, what works for the goose should work for the gander. But life is unfair, especially where the "tolerant" Left wields power.

User avatar
Fraulein & Krasnodar,

I respect your opinions, but Like Whoopie, I respectfully disagree. Nudity alone (or risque images alone) are not crude. (Have I seen crude or offensive things on the Cube? Yes. Have I expressed my disapproval in effective ways? Sometimes effectively; sometimes not. It's not a perfect worlds and my judgment is simply my judgment.)
With respect to sexual humor and/or imagery not portrayed in a crude manner, it may be that many people "in the 'choir'" (i.e., in our part of the limited-government/strong-defense part of the political spectrum-- which I think is the center) may deem all such material to be inappropriate, but I think a lot of those in the "choir" as well as most of the so-called "independents" outside the choir, whose minds we're trying to reach, have less strict views on the subject. With all due respect (and I really mean respect is due), --KOOK

User avatar
Thank you, Comrade Kook.

I know what I'll do....I won't think until the People's Party tells me what to think !

( Besides, it's a rotten time of the year to be shipped to Siberia.)

User avatar
The Party elite have agonized over the issue of what constitutes gratuitous erotica. To continue to do so in this case merely validates the premise that Google is using when the real issue may be the possible political agenda of Google.

Since all we have is our suspicions and since Google is free to do whatever they please I don't see much recourse other than to find a new search service. Competition is what capitalism is all about and Google has competitors.

User avatar
Sorry, as I said, it was just a personal opinion. I'm not "denouncing" or "whacking" anyone. This particular topic is certainly open to subjective opinion, like politics and those TSA gropers checkers.

The Topic is Google and their liberal/progressive bias. We know it's there and as Whoopie said, they can do whatever they want and will (all Libs hate free speech, choice and thought). So just use another search engine. I know I will in my searches.... Google can go google itself.

A little background on Google and their ties to Soros and Obama (from the website Gulag Bound):

Chairman of the New American Foundation Board of directors and a member of the N.A.F. Leadership Council is none other than Eric Schmidt, Chairman & CEO, Google, Inc.
ImageBarack Obama & Erick Schmidt of Google

Schmidt is a member of President Obama's Council of Advisors on Science and Technology.
There is another, more obscure Obama/Google connection. A couple of years ago Google appointed Dr. John Lumpkin to its Health Advisory Council. John Lumpkin came from a well known Chicago Communist Party family. When John Lumpkin unsuccessfully stood for Alderman in Chicago's 7th Ward in 1979, the “Committee to Elect Dr. John R. Lumpkin” was led by several Communist Party members, as well as activists Timuel Black and Quentin Young.
Black and Young both went on to join Democratic Socialists of America. Both also became personal friends, mentors and political supporters of Barack Obama. Quentin Young was Obama's personal physician at one stage and attended the famous meeting where Obama's political career was launched in the home of Bill Ayers and Bernardine Dohrn.
ImageJonathan Soros

Serving with Eric Schmidt on the N.A.F. Leadership Council is Jonathan Soros, President & Co-Deputy Chairman, Soros Fund Management, LLC.
Jonathan Soros serves on the board of directors of his father's Open Society Institute. Before graduate school, Johnathan Soros was a program manager at O.S.I. in Budapest. He also served as a staff member on the Clinton/Gore '92 campaign and inaugural committees.
The Open Society Institute funded the New America Foundation to the tune of at least $250,000 in 2008.
ImageSteve Coll

President and CEO of the New America Foundation is Steve Coll.
It turns out the Steve Coll and his wife Susan Keselenko Coll were pretty good friends of Barack Obama back at Occidental College in the 1980s.

Comrade Kook,Was this the outfit she wore to Homocon? That appearance was just about money, or was it?The sound track is only 50% inaudible.

Komerades..... As a long time member of our glorious party I must fall on the side of the Google/Izvestia complex. What our wise Komerades at the Maryland Kremlin and the news complex realize is that there is another kind of Pornography taking over this sector of the world. Our dear leaders know that the pornography of skin and private parts is nothing compared to the pornography of free thought and free speech. The whole Politburo shudders at the sound of such pornography as free speech. We as good socialist must also report such pornography.

Oh, brother. That's an example of "full nudity or sexual activities"?

Those people are really digging. Can you imagine having a job where you spend hours going over every page at a web-site with instructions from your boss: "find something, anything."

Maybe this tells us more about the perverted sexual leanings of the Google people than anything else. I mean, if they're serious, what did they do? See that picture and go: wow! That really turns me on. Being locked up in a breast-padded cell has been one of my fantasies for years now. Talk about a turn on. Now, that is what I call some sexy sexual activities." And then the lowly google peon shows his Google boss and the boss exclaims: Wow! Talk about sexual activities! I've always dreamed of being straight-jacketed and locked up in a breast-padded cell. Holly-smokes. Pardon me while I, uh, go to the, uh, bathroom. Va-va-va-voom!"

I mean, what kind of people are these Google people?

User avatar
Comrades,

To say this is hypocracy is an understatement. They do not want any other site to have a hint of a shadow of competition with their Gigs of pornography hosted by them.

It is artistic license and freedom of expression on their servers, elsewhere it is a bad idea and detrimental to the community.

User avatar
You're not paranoid when people really are out to get you.

Personally, I feel some measure of pride that Soros and friends regard the Cube as an enemy worthy of their attention. It should inspire us all to rankle them even more.

User avatar
Note to all Peoples Cube Comrades (as well as all bloggers who are not leftist ideologues):

Google's headlock on the internet is probably many times greater and stronger than was the NBC/CBS/ABC/NYT/WaPo headlock on the American news media in the 1960's.

Finding an effective way to free the internet from such incalculably powerful headlock will be a far more daunting challenge than the decades-long effort needed to counter the NBC/CBS/ABC/NYT/Wapo headlock.

Thus, everyone who is not an ideological leftist and who cares about the internet needs to contribute to, and support, broad, sustained and effective ways to liberate the internet in the same way that decades of work ultimately liberated the American News Media from the NBC/CBS/ABC/NYT/WaPo headlock.

What's needed is an internet clearing house for this effort. Suggestions?

Gotta go right now-- I'll check back later.

I remember looking into AdSense a long time ago and I wasn't interested in it. Seems like it was supposed to pay something like $15 a month. BFD.

But the Google search is the only website search engine that really works well, and as much as I dislike Google, on my websites I have to use it. Scroogle used to work, but last I knew, Google screwed up the scripts so Scroogle wouldn't work anymore as a website search engine.

I think I would go put black bars over each nipple and put "Censored by Google" in the middle of the page

User avatar
Red Square wrote:they will find other excuses in the near future, making it unbearable. Just like Cafepress in the past.

Since you ask, the Cube is full of images they could exploit, many worse than the image currently in question.

For example in your Flat Gareth thread in the Current Truth forum there is an image you posted back in 2005 which shows full frontal nudity of both genders. Literally every thread in every forum would have to be examined and a decision made on each questionable image. We already know how daunting it is to define what constitutes an unacceptable image.

If our suspicions are correct this is merely a convenient ploy to sever their relationship with the Cube. They would simply find some other excuse or failing that offer no reason at all. They are under no legal obligation to offer a credible reason for their actions.

Just my 2 kopecs
(perhaps Kook has more to add)

User avatar
I'd make the adjustment they requested......If they find something else, you'll be no worse off the now, and you would know for certain if Google's has an operative agenda towards the site.

All my sites still include Google Site-Search and Google AdSense (even though Google/YouTube terminated one of my sites' YouTube account).

I'm already planning to drop Google Site-Search and resume using an exellent site-search service (FreeFind.Com) I used many years ago before I switched to Google (i.e., before Google began removing its ideological mask).

Likewise, I'm already planning to drop Googe AdSense and switch first to Yahoo AdSense.

Having too many other alligators to wrestle at the moment, it may be a while before I can implement those two steps. But that's the decision I've already made. It's not whether; it's how soon I can do it.

We who want to contribute to breaking Google's current stranglehold/headlock on the internet, which Google is increasingly using to further its own Global ideology, need to be Murdochian in our thinking-- i.e., we need to be eager to be the David versus the Google Goliath.

So, I think the Cube and as many persuadable other blogs (not hooked on leftist ideology) as possible need to immediatly begin making a broad appeal across the internet to facilitate such Murdochian strategy by encourging everyone to (a) donate regularly to sites which, as a matter of principle, deprive themselves of the benefits of services (i.e., site-search and advertising) offered by the Google Goliath and (b) actively support competitors to the Google Goliath.

I concede that it took at least 5 of the last 10 years for such Murdochian strategy to free the news media from the stranglehold/headlock of NBC/CBS/ABC/NYT/WaPO as it existed back in the 1960's, but it's like drilling for oil-- the sooner we start, the sooner we strike oil. Just as is the case in drilling for oil, we must not be deterred by the arguments (advanced by opponents of drilling) that "it would be at least 10 years before we could begin to have results."

It didn't take 10 years for the Murdochian strategy to begin to work. It won't take 10 years to lessen the GoogleGoliath's stranglehold either.

But in this long-term endeavor, we can't confine our efforts to what is essentially "preaching to the 'choir'"-- rather, we must be willing to structure content that will enable us to reach outside the choir to reach the minds of those who are not already addicted to the Leftist Kool-Aid but also not yet in the limited-government/strong-defense "choir."

So, I think the Cube should decline to feed one of its children (the image at issue) to the Google Alligator. (Pardon me for switching metaphors.)

User avatar
Red Square,

Glorious leader and founder of 'The Cube' I humbly offer the following suggestions for your wise consideration in regards to the Google issue currently facing the collective:

To wit: The issue seems to be subjective with Google in determining what is considered 'decent' and not decent in regards to photos and materials that breach their standards to allow ad sense.
As always you have shown that the term 'booby hatch' a slang term from the 60's describing an insane asylum with a comedic photo representation is about as erotic as having a root canal done by a lesbian dentist.

However Google was not persuaded by your lucid argument and for that I have the following suggestions:

* Recommend that an e-mail be composed requesting that Google read every single page, blog, entry and submission provided on 'The Cube' over the years

* Granted since the site is progressive satire the person assigned by Google with this tasking may well be a true progressive and would not actually enjoy reading ALL OF OUR MATERIAL

* Though this would ENSURE we are in compliance with their standards and the good folks at Google would also be REAL familiar with our material as they spread the tasking around at their headquarters for other Google employees to enjoy our rich contributions toward the march to the glorious world of next Tuesday.

* Recommend also that google provide proof that each and every page was read and reviewed by them with a possible 'google certified read' digital signature perhaps?

Submitted duly for your consideration.

Very Respectfully,

Your Humble Commodore,

Snoogie Woogums

All your Google belong to U.S. Google supports the glorius Obama Revolution and will not tolerate sites that mock Dear Reader.

User avatar
OK, the solution to this was actually very simple. Besides the search, we have only two Google Ads units on the Cube - on the Mother Page and the left-hand column. So the left-hand "skyscraper" ad was the only one that was shared by all pages. We replaced it with an ad coming from a different service and it solved the problem.

Unfortunately, Google Ads is the only such service that makes having the ads worthwhile, and they also have the useful site search feature. Other services just aren't as good. Too bad Google has to be such a pest.

Oh well, now some of its potential revenue will be "redistributed" to AdBrite.
