The categories change from hour to hour sometimes so it can be difficult to pin down.

However, Category I hasn't been used since 1959.

That summary of a liberal university professor's book is misleading.

Jefferson got the "Democratic-Republicans" started in the 1790s, which was an ideological movement, not a party, and called itself by other names and splintered into other factions—including 1828's Jacksonian Democrats—until it ended in 1829.

20th Century Democrats claimed that Thomas Jefferson was the founder of their party although Andrew Jackson was the first President elected by the Democratic Party.

The Republican Party of today was not established until 1854.

It was the rejection of the hold-over vestiges of British Monarchial Government within Federalist government to a more true original American Republic that Appleby presents. The point is that political parties can end, and it does not harm the nation. Without corruption and the power to cover it up, the Democrat Party has nothing to offer a young voter hoping to get going in the adult world, other than Satan worship.

The Democrat Party has played Alinsky Rule 6(66) too long and it's gone past stale, into pure rancidness.

That's why they are crying about democracy that says they are relevant. Just like the Federalist's before them. That's the main idea thesis of Appleby's book.
