There are several classes of people responsible for this:

The Uneducated (and miseducated) who don't know any better.

The True Believers (truth deniers) who are loyal to The Party Line™ and gladly self deceive if it serves to progress the goals of The Party.™

The Party™ Members who may be either or both of the above (but mostly are neither). They know exactly what they're doing when they intentionally push the phrase "Our Democracy" as a deception aimed at the public, a reinforcement of the Democrat brand name and a cynical dog whistle to rally fellow loyalists. 

The Globalists who sardonically encourage use of the term as long as it speeds the advance of worldwide color revolutions.  

The Chinese Communists, to whom it is a humorous euphemism for how Western governments blindly describe themselves even as their increasing dysfunction leads them ever closer to self destruction and eventual domination by an ultimately Chinese New World Order (under which all of the above-mentioned useful fools will be enslaved or slaughtered).

Naturally, use of "Republic" in any form whatsoever must be suppressed, quashed, villified, criminalized and memory holed since it flies in the face of the misunderstanding / denial / deception / rebranding / revolution /and the hoped-for and planned goals of each of the above.

Maybe the folks at CNN should read and understand the words of the Pledge of Allegiance they recite every morning before starting work. To help them along, here they are: 

"I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."
