As reported at sfweekly.com, in August of 2012 Edward Hasbrouck “...sued the Department of Homeland Security over what he says is its refusal to give a complete accounting of secret government files detailing his own global travels.”

Comrade Hasbrouck, a well known San Francisco journalist, travel writer, and considered by many to be friendly toward left leaning folks, had become increasingly disturbed by The Department of Homeland Security's so called “Automated Targeting System”, which he refers to as a “guilt by association machine.”

Under The Federal Privacy Act and Freedom of Information Act we have a right to know what information the government is collecting on us, but Hasbrouck claims the DHS partially denied his numerous requests for details.

Hasbrouck felt compelled to sue for a more complete accounting of his government file. April 2, 2013 The CATO Institute sponsored a 1 hour and 18 minute conference titled “Government Surveillance of Travelers” at which Comrade Hasbrouck delivered a Party-damaging report based on the results of his lawsuit.

The event was carried by C-SPAN. Adding to the libelous accusations of Obama administration offenses was Comrade Ginger McCall, director of the Open Government Project and national security attorney at The Electronic Privacy Information Center.

At the conclusion of the C-SPAN broadcast, casual discussion in the distillation apparatus room centered on Comrade Hasbrouck's flagrant disregard of Party secrecy regarding the collection of personal data, as well as techniques and methods of accomplishing necessary population unit travel management.

The name of Leon Trotsky was mentioned more than once during the liquid refreshment period - and not in measured tones. The Party suggests we advise others of Hasbrouck's possible thought crimes and make note of future contacts with him as well as Comrade McCall.

Perhaps Comrade Hasbrouck has simply lost his itineraries and is trying to reconstruct his worldly wanderings so that he may claim appropriate travel, lodging and meal deductions for pending IRS submissions? If that is the case then his indiscretions become even more serious. Disclosing secrets in the process of attempting to avoid maximum redistribution warrants substantial time spent in a re-indoctrination center.
