Remember when it was funny before it became official?

User avatar
Wakefield Tolbert of the drinking, smoking, cussing wing of the GOP a.k.a Republican Party Animals has recently discovered this sign on one of the "Occupy" sites. He then asked everyone a question, "what IS the libertarian full-fledged, unfettered 'free market' answer" to that would be.

Indeed, how does one respond to that? What a great way to twist a question so that any answer seems inept or impossible. It's the next best loaded question since "Have you stopped beating your wife?" Learn from it, comrades!

Speaking of remembering things, we Progs have a whole lot of similarly great recollections! Just think of all the things about progressivism that were funny before they became official.

Remember when good intentions alone, by virtue of being spoken, used to feed everyone and put roofs over their heads for free? But no, the capitalists had to take over and ruined it for everybody! One has to pay for everything now, while good intentions are only good for paving the road to hell.

And don't forget those great pre-capitalist times when all the little people lived happily without any responsibility to think, protect, or feed themselves, because all their needs were taken care of by wise and gracious philosopher kings? And how it was all destroyed by the greedy merchant class who started the industrial revolution? It was our 9-11. Never forgive, never forget!

Please post your own example of loaded propaganda items here! Let's have a workshop.

The one I hear a lot from working-class bitter-clinger Dem friends is along the lines of "Reagan stuck us with a lot of debt and things have gone downhill since then." Yeah, because Social Security, Medicare and other entitlements were all self-sustaining before he came along and would be today if it weren't for him.

Remember when horrible bigoted President Clinton passed "Don't Ask Don't Tell" and everyone had to keep quiet and avoid dressing in drag and singing show tunes while engaging in combat? How wonderful that Dear Leader put a stop to the madness!!!

Remember 3 years ago when the percentage of working wage slaves was over 62% and not the 58% it is now?

Remember 3 years ago, when only 28.2 million people recieved food stamps under Stingy McBushitler instead of the 44.7 million happy eaters joyfully tasting manna from our Glorious Leader?

Many of my Facebook "friends" are progressive liberals (OK, I admit, I used to be one too) so I'm treated to "commentary" like this every day. Lots of it.

What's your plan?

What's your plan to provide affordable health care for everybody? Huh? Huh? Lousy no good one percenter!

User avatar
Remember when the President was complicit in allowing the CIA to walk all over the Constitution?

User avatar
Remember when Dear Leader said this?

“today I'm pledging to cut the deficit we inherited in half by the end of my first term in office. This will not be easy. It will require us to make difficult decisions and face challenges we've long neglected. But I refuse to leave our children with a debt that they cannot repay — and that means taking responsibility right now, in this administration, for getting our spending under control.”

"I have heard . . . that people may become dependent on us for food. I know that was not supposed to be good news. To me that was good news, because before people can do anything they have got to eat. And if you are looking for a way to get people to lean on you and to be dependent on you, in terms of their cooperation with you, it seems to me that food dependence would be terrific."- Sen. Hubert H. Humphrey, in naming P.L. 480 the "Food for Peace" program, Wall Street Journal, May 7, 1982.

When it has become official, it has obviously evolved. Evolution takes time.

Remember when crap was abhorred?

Head Hunter - in your link I mostly liked this chart representing the evolution of the mainstream media.

Walmart is so terrible! Imagine if these people bought stock in the company...they would not need the government anymore.

REMEMBER WHEN DEFICIT SPENDING WAS TWICE WHAT IT IS NOW (measured in terms of the increase in the annual deficit over the previous year's deficit as a percentage of the total year's deficit)?

User avatar
Remember when calculating things like the deficit and unemployment didn't involve dividing by the secret variable "x"?

My father was a staunch conservative and voted straight line Republican until the day he died, now he votes Democrat.

Remember when the Occupy movement attacked America on 9-11?
See how easy it is, comrades? Did the occupiers have anything to do with 9-11? Of course not! But the Busheois Repugnantcans are so easily baffled. The implication is that since they had nothing to do with the terrorist attacks, the entire movement is benevolent and it is only the basest hypocrite that would dare find fault with these noble and self-sacrificing laborers for the Greater Good.

"Those sucky old days"--- as grandfather Lenin would say.

Remember when Government could not be trusted?

Remember when Government propaganda was not produced by Government?

Remember when Government coerced the people instead of "encouraging" them?

Remember when the Government had enumerated and limited powers, and was not allowed to feed the masses of unwashed, starving, Baal-worshiping Americans?

Remember when child-molesting parents were allowed to educate their own children?

Remember when politicians and totalitarians were eyed with the same contempt heaped on child-molesters?

Remember when you wanted to be gay?
Image Even cowboys were gay.

Remember when the Government could only coin money out of precious metals instead of print it on $10/ton paper and freely hand it out to you and to me?

Remember the days before Republicans became compassionate, and joined the party in a bi-partisan manner?

Remember the days the livestock citizens were allowed to roam the countryside, stomping down fences and freely consuming resources before the powerful iron fist of regulation held them in check?

Remember the days discrimination was legal at the voting booth and in private transactions?

Remember the days volunteerism was voluntary, secession was legal, and secessionists were heroes?

Remember when the lion first lay down with the lamb? It was during our tenure.

Remember when that stupid "common defense principle" was replaced with the "precautionary principle"?

Remember when only a precious few could solve a Rubix cube?

Remember when liberals overpaid their taxes because they believed that the government would find a better use for their money than they ever could?

I am in complete support of filthy rich liberals being taxed at 100%.

George Soros' billions could definitely put a lot of really poor (minority) folks into the lap of social justice luxury that they have so earnestly earned.

Remember that time we created millions of new jobs by punishing businesses and raising trade barriers? It was called the Great Depression.
