Democrats are launching a petition against Limbaugh over his recent comments.

(CNN) – In a bid to capitalize on Rush Limbaugh's recent comment that he hopes President Obama "fails," national Democrats launched a petition drive Wednesday taking direct aim at the conservative radio host.

"Jobs, health care, our place in the world — the stakes for our nation are high and every American needs President Obama to succeed," says the petition, sponsored by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. "Stand strong against Rush Limbaugh's Attacks — sign our petition, telling Rush what you think of his attacks on President Obama."

Limbaugh told listeners last week he sharply disagrees with Republicans who have said they hope Obama succeeds as president, and particularly expressed frustration over what he viewed as the "absorption of as much of the private sector by the US government as possible, from the banking business, to the mortgage industry, the automobile business, to health care."

"If I wanted Obama to succeed, I'd be happy the Republicans have laid down," Limbaugh said. "I hope he fails."

The article goes on to say:

The petition follows reports Obama warned GOP congressional leaders last week that they should stop listening to the conservative talker, prompting Limbaugh's response that the new president is "frightened of me."

I think Rush made a tactical mistake in saying "I don't want this to work." Truth is that this kind of crap DOESN'T work; it's been proven over and over again. If it DID work, we wouldn't talk about the Soviet Union in the past tense. We would all be running around in uniforms surrounded by pictures of our glorious leader like North Korea (well, we're kinda getting there as far as the picture part.) The point is that if the patient is dying we don't try to heal him by bloodletting because it's been proven not to work. It's pointless for his inheritors to say "we don't want this to work" because they already know it won't. If you're against performing the useless procedure on him, it's not because you want him to die but because you want him to be cured.

By framing it this way, Rush can be depicted as wanting "America" to fail. He looks to people like a sore loser rather than a principled critic. Instead, he should have pounded the table with the facts because the facts are on his side but most MSM-misled people are not aware of them. Point out the similarities with the USSR, the Roosevelt era, the Carter era and show where the actions taken led and why. I know this is generally what he does but he created a soundbite here for the leftys to capitalize on and that's generally all they need (and have.) Considering that all most people know about almost everything comes from 30-second chunks of TV crap, this was a bad move. JMHO.

Indeed. He was able to engender sensationalism and get his face out there and draw attention toward him. Sadly, he forgot to consider that the moonbats will not dig deeper to look for FACTS. Logic is their enemy. Soundbytes are their weapon of choice. "Hope, Change, Yes We Can!" "Tippecanoe and Tyler Too" "Es ist zeit fuer rache!" What's the difference? While Rush's message here is one I can agree with, he should have known they would latch on the phrase and ignore the message, hearing what they wanted to hear and getting offended. Such a method only strengthens their resolve.

What? What kind of crazy talk is this? Limbaugh "hopes HE (PBUH) fails"? I have never heard such divisive, hateful dissent in the history of American politics! We Progressives never said anything like that about Bush. In fact, it was Bush and his minions that spent 8 long years dividing the country into an "us vs. them" mentality that refused to even acknowledge us voicing our quite reasonable concerns over Bush's rape and pillage of our sacred Democracy and collective civil rights. Limbaugh is spreading the seeds of hate and dissent in a time of crisis and he must silenced to preserve the nation's unity for the Greater Good™.

<br>A bunch of us who were regular readers of David Codrea's War On Guns blog did something similar with an online "petition" at controlarms.org, signing ourselves as Castro, Hitler, various notorious criminals--anyone who would readily agree with any initiative to limit others' ability to defend themselves (dictators and despots for people control, criminals for easier targets). I myself managed to get myself in as Hermann Goering, Dylan Klebold, Nicolae Ceaucescu, Benito Mussolini, and one of Saddam Hussein's Inner Circle thugs.
