Fletcher Christian was very different in character from the also real, Colonial American Nathaniel Bowditch we had learned about.

Defending his actions with rigid, defensive pride, Bligh explains to the court that his hands were tied. He argues that he had to indulge the local royalty and participate in their ceremonies to secure the breadfruit plants necessary for the mission. He sharply counters the panel by stating that he did recognize the danger of the men falling for the island women, reminding the court that he eventually tried to enforce harsh discipline to pull them back to reality before it was too late."

Captain William Bligh was acquitted of all charges that HE failed in command. The 8th graders were 'there' in the longboat, minimally supplied, and cast adrift, and they saw a commander they could trust.

Today, Derek Chauvin, a White police officer, in Minneapolis, Minnesota is in prison because George Floyd decided to belay all commands of "Stop that shit" and go full bore native in the Public Square. His rejection of police commands mutiny - to Public Square Accountability - ended in human destruction, no different than Fletcher Christian's bee line to human grief and destruction.
